can anyone explain to me what the spacer rings do between the dual wheels on a massey 135, i have got myself a set of dual wheels but i dont have the spacer rings, i have bought a full set of extension studs and nuts, was told that the spacer ring was only needed if you werent using a full set of extension studs to secure the wheels not sure if any truth in this, has anyone heard of wheels coming off or being damaged when these spacers are not used?

You dont need spacers

the extension nuts are coned on the female end to replace the original nuts and hold the inner wheel on. The the spacers have flat sides and 8 clearance holes to go over extension nuts and provide a flat surface for the second wheel to fit against and the original nuts hold the second wheel on. Fitting without spacers wouldn't be as strong. The inner pair of wheels need to he set at 52", that's one setting from fully in and the outer wheels need to be set the same but obviously with the dishes reversed.

The wheel centre is dished for strength, without the spacer they will touch about 2 1/2" further out from the nuts, not only will they rub, also they will walk as tractor is driven, and because the part where the nuts hold it is not solid, you will never get them tight to stay tight as it were, as when no spacer is fitted, there is an air gap, and you cannot tighten an air gap, through time with the dishes rubbing and walking, they will just break the studs,
If you cannot get a spacer, then get 16 bushes made, thick walled bushing steel / pre bored bar turned out on lathe to fit over the nuts, and deep enough to leave a 10mm+ gap between the center's, and a wall thickness of at least 10mm, and all 16 must be the same length

Depends what you are going to be doing with it.
Occasional useage or hard work?
You could probably sell your extra mf wheels and buy new stocks duals and have money left over.
I had a set but they went in my farm sale for under £50

These are 30 inch spacers, i thought they were 28
Going cheap, could probably be shrunk quite easily
