Massey Ferguson 240 battery removal with cab in place?

I need to replace the battery in my '79 Massey 240.
The front bar of the cab / screen runs across the top of the battery cover meaning that the battery won't come out as the gap is too small.

I can't believe the only way to change the battery is by removing the cab??

I've stripped of the bonnet tinware and I'm looking at removing the fuel tank. Is this the way forward or are there other problems I'm about to encounter?

Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated.

What about removing the tank? Is that an option?

Never seen it done but I think you remove the pins holding the cab on at the front and then jack the front of the cab up

Never done it.
But told lifting the cab off is the proper way.
There are slinging points welded to the cab frame.
Remove the eight bolts, trim pieces and wiper electrical connection and you're good to go.

OK, jacking it up is a possibility, but removing the cab is a no go for me.

What a ridiculous design.

I'm going to look a little closer at the tank route or jacking the front cab, otherwise it'll be a trip to the local tractor workshop!

yes lift the cab is the easiest option. they were one of the first tractors fitted with a "sealed for life" battery called a persuader.

I take you dont jump lead to/ from these tractors... cant get over the lack of thought in this, at least you can put fuel in it without removing a wheel!

I use to remove the dash and squeeze in the new battery

I used to help out somewhere there was a 250, that had the battery in the cab, on left footplate , not sure if original or a modification

That was original. It would've been a sankey cab

I think it was a later modification.
