Massey Ferguson 860 !

Hi Folks
I’m seeking any otherMassey 860 combine models still working in uk ?
With a view of putting a database together! Im expecting very few models are now in work! We have the last model sold in uk June 1987,
Any help most appreciated ??

You need to speak to Robert White from Thetford, he has taken bits from our scrap 865 to keep his 860 / 865 going. He wrote a book about the harvesting gangs using the old Masseys in America. PM me for his phone number if you don't know him.

Thank you! Yes I know Rob very well, he has 3 865s
The 860 was less in numbers minus the cascade separator ! We have one with a 6 cylinder Perkins! Not a v8 we are told only 6 6 cylinder models made it over to uk, the others had v8 Perkins .

I think all the last years production had no cascade system certainly my 865 nad none.

Every combine shipped into Uk in the early days came as an 860!
And we’re fitted with the cascade separator system by importers peacock and binnington along with grain tank covers and alarms! RDS system.
Hence the 865 badges similar to the 525 with multi flow and 520 without!
If your 865 didn’t have it? Someone must of removed it?

No the very last 865’s came without the the cascade, and had the Droningberg sieves and header. They also had no auto header control.
this was because the French had the patents and would not release them to Droningberg

The last build 865s were all 1986 built, I’ve never seen one or known one without the separator? We have the latest Dronny table Red bodywork and auger reverser on it! When you say Auto header control ? Are you referring to auto level? Or auto height? Or both?

You say seperator, I said cascade. The last 865s were built I believe in 86 but had only 2 stage sieving fitted in Denmark.. which was quite a surprise when mine was delivered. There were no instruction books that I am aware of that mentioned this or the settings required.

You say seperator, I said cascade. The last 865s were built I believe in 86 but had only 2 stage sieving fitted in Denmark.. which was quite a surprise when mine was delivered. There were no instruction books that I am aware of that mentioned this or the settings required.

Prior to 1985 this was not available, these were called the 85 series, also these had the open vents pressed into the front bonnet to aid engine cooling in hotter climates.
Apart from the Dronny table header! I’ve personally never came across any other parts on these combines including sieves! That came from that company, unless retro fitted after by another user?
We have a full operators manual regarding also the triple sieve shoe adjustments plus the retrofit grain tanks and tank alarm monitor RDS system installed by a company for Peacock and Binnington .
It was a long time ago now and stranger things have happened ??

I understood at the time that the last 865s coming into Europe had no sieves fitted and the Dronning borg sieves were adapted to fit. I never compared any of the last machines side by side so cannot comment how this was done, I think it would have been very difficult to modify one outside the factory

we certainly had all the speed controls in the cab.
I believe my machine is still running out at Mildenhall by another forum member, but I cannot remember his name. Certainly he posted pictures a year or two back

Looking at that picture reminds me , the panels guarding the rear were not original MF panels as the paint never matched. Perhaps European regs required a mod?
the other question I wonder, did the American market offer a 2 sieve option? Perhaps they were never Dronny and the cascade seperator was actually made for European conditions
