McCormick cx100 steering problems

Hi all,

If anyone can help direct me with this problem it would be much appreciated. 52 reg McCormick cx 100 with jolty power steering, sometimes completely locks up and delayed rear linkage response. Usually cured after a good road run and warm up. Some days there's no problem, other days it messes about all day long. Steering also locks up if tipping a trailer/ using post knocker. Plenty of clean oil on the rear end dipstick.

Many thanks

Rob

Check the jubilee clips are tight on the rubber suction hose on the r/h side going to the steering pump on the engine 1st. Then I'd check the main hydraulic filter has no bits in it that shouldn't be there.......

How can I tell if the key way has sheared? I cant turn the gear that drives it?

Any other reasons for stuttery steering and slow lift??

Hi Stuart, can I ask did you get any more information regarding this, as I have a similar problem,
The filter often falls to pieces on the transfer pump and Jams the pump, the main hydraulic pump starts drawing air and hyds stop including steering , most noticeable if you have a loader on or tipping a trailer or working on banks

Sorry for being quite naive but the transfer pump you speak about were is this located.
You would need to take the MCV valve off to see it , the MCV valve is behind the left hand rear wheel , it has the transmission / hydraulic filter attached to it and you need the 4wd drop box off and the pto clutch pack out to change it , they never used to give any trouble until they changed the gauze filter on it from steel to plastic and they fall to bits and get drawn into the pump

Cheers, I had the main hydraulic pump off and checked out the pump and drive gears to make sure there wasn't any teeth broken or pin sheared stopping it from working. All was good, but never went as far to drop out the 4wd Dropbox or pull out the PTO clutch pack. Not to worry back in again....
Thanks for your help.

The pump is or they were held in place by a Allen stud screwed into the base of the transfer pump from the underneath of the tractor , quite a small Allen key size and the hole is often full of paint , when you get one Allen headed stud out you usually find another one screwed in , in the same hole unless they have changed it some how
