Just wondering if anyone has any particular opinions about Meadow Quality?
No particular reason for asking.;)
Fine if your on the ball but if your half asleep they will fit you up with overpriced stock, and be prepared for alot of pi#sing about if you engage them to sell stock for you. Their weekly trade predictions are a source of amusement, they predict yesterdays/ last weeks trade most of the time

I started to sell to them when Carmarthen mart started to sound dodgy. At the first whisper indeed. Very convenient and more consistently better prices than at Carmarthen which I found varied wildly from week to week in the last year of trading.

This, they are just a bunch of dealers with a fancy heading, half asleep buying or selling and they'll have your pants down.

I think if your only buying or selling rearing calves from/to them they arent too bad but weanlings upwards they havent much clue. They kept advertising they wanted a certain type of stock once so i rang up and said i have what you want, they sent a school boy out who didnt have a clue ,who then wanted to advertise them for me, turns out they didnt have buyers waiting, they just wanted something to sell. The more middle men you use the less profit there is imo, stand on your own two feet and buy your own is my advice.

Have traded with them and bought all my calves from them for probably 30 years or more. Started out with Mid West Calves that then evolves to Meadow Quality.
Find it suits my system well. Have an excellent farm contact that makes all the difference. Always found them fair and see no reason to change.
I buy both baby rearing calves and reared calves from them. The main advantage for me is being able to source batches of 35-40 at a time. I simply haven’t the time or inclination to be bothering with 5 or 6 calves at a time coming into farm.

So all pretty happy then. That's good to hear.
With pigs you need to be on a contract I would imagine, we got shut up with the cattle with tb and we'd a few pigs about, so they decided to put restrictions on those as well, it was at a time when the pig job was good, meadow quality were the only ones who would take them, (for which I was gratefull) but the cheque back for them was just over £5,000 less than the food they'd eaten.

You would think so wouldn't you? I've had worse experience with carefully written, signed contracts than a deal sealed by a firm handshake.
