Yes I agree (I'm not a farmer) Farmers screwing things up for themselves. You cant help freak weather of course but a lot of these instances are just down to bad farming. People trying to out winter too many cows on land that's not suitable. Mainly because that land was cheaper to buy.
When the milk price was good a lot of business people bought shares in a lot of farms and put managers or contract milkers on them that frankly shouldn't have been running farms. Then the advisors all said you should be running this stocking rate producing this much milk etc without taking into account individual farm conditions.
The government will probably step in now and everyone will complain about all the rules.

Yep dairying has a bad image here currently, again its complicated. Massive pollution of water courses they say and there has been some due to bad farmers/contract milkers but come and look at the majority of the rivers here, I don't see it. I think its more a case of, they were so clean to begin with it only takes a small amount of pollution to add a huge percentage increase.
Yes plenty of trees got cut down in some areas to be replaced by dairying especially in Canterbury but many were forestry plantations not native bush, they were at their harvest date (forestry is a huge industry here) and new plantations are going in all the time. I think there's a government scheme at the moment aiming to plant a billion trees?
The biggest problem dairying has is so many conversions went in when the price was high and some of those were in areas not suitable for dairy, mainly because the land was cheaper. They really have screwed that up for themselves.

I think there was an article about NZs dirty rivers in the Washington post.
Moral of the story ,dont take everything you read at face value. ;)

Do you really think that helps though?
I get what you're trying to say and agree with you but is that how people will see that post?
It could easily be seen as "don't eat this man made food, chop the heads off one of these nice woolly creatures and eat it instead".
Better perhaps to show a picture of the actual lamb chops on a BBQ?

Henry Gent is similar to Oliver being ex organic dairy .

But like any organisation be it NFU , Green party or the like one voice can get drowned out.

I have always found Caroline Lucas very well informed tbh.
Is that the same Henry Gent from next door to Exeter airport? Did he not sell off a lot of land between his farm and the M5 or am I mistaken? He used to grow lots of spuds ? too IIRC

Its been a great advert for uk meat and our high standards so far. Any member of the public who bashes uk ag should take a long hard look at themselves, they have supported the farming we have seen tonight by wanting cheap food. If your going to eat meat, eat meat born and reared in the uk. I wasnt going to watch but glad i am.
