Meat: a threat to our planet.

Well hopefully the NFU have made it clear that if they use all the old propaganda that veganboy loves to quote the lawyers are watching and will hit them hard. Make it clear that an apology won't do as they've been warned beforehand and unless they balance it with the concrete facts that are widely available then the lawsuits for damages will follow. They have the funds to carry it out and in the current situation there is nothing that would give the industry better value for money. Hit them hard and all the media would think twice, let them get away with it and we all may as well give up.
I am now at the stage where I think some sort of legal action is sadly required, such is the nature of out and out rubbish that is being spewed around the media. Taking the BBC to court would seem to be the most obvious starting point as it's the most high profile. The NFU would seem the most obvious body to do this too.

We all know that this programme will shout from the rooftops that farmers are killing the planet while not remotely examining any others area that are far higher emitters of greenhouse gases. The trouble is huge numbers of people will be watching and will lap it all up cos it's on the BBC. The damage will have been done. How can we as individuals call them to account? Write a strongly worded e-mail to Newswatch? I'm not sure that's gonna cut it. Time for legal action NFU.

Good. There's a few greens of longstanding like Oliver Dowding in Somerset. Surely they must be able to bring some sense to bear in all of this
Henry Gent is similar to Oliver being ex organic dairy .

But like any organisation be it NFU , Green party or the like one voice can get drowned out.

I have always found Caroline Lucas very well informed tbh.

So let's sum up the situation... no more meat, but if we plough all the suitable grass for arable that's no good because it's a carbon sink. Chemicals are bad, but organic isn't an option because less output means more land needs to be farmed to maintain supply. We need to plant trees on all our farmland to meet C02 targets, but the rainforest gets destroyed to take up the slack. Eat insects but now Packham is against cruelty to invertebrates.
Anyone else losing the will???

Is Henry standing as a PPC for the Greens?

Maybe the greenies should look at make up,hair products etc they buy.A lot promote the amazon clay as a wonder product in their product.Surely removing amazon clay from river beds is as bad as cutting trees down.If they promoted English beef and paid a fair price that would help. The BBC are a disgrace just emailed to object to them again and said they should mention the clay.

While I agree, I also suspect that hardline leaders of these pressure groups don't want to know and have an agenda that is aimed at wiping out all agricultural animal production.

Craig Bennett looks like a man who enjoys his food. The FoE line to their members is to 'eat less but better meat'. If they are saying that without the livestock industry having made any attempt to engage with them, then I would see it as entirely possible to get them to amend that advice to their members to 'eat British meat'. As it stands the NFU see FoE as the enemy and have no interest in engaging with them.

Many on here would regard Patrick Holden, in derogatory terms, as a 'greenie'. He remains the only farmer I have heard on national radio tell the British public "if you want to help the planet then eat more red meat".

Caroline commissioned the attached. Best part of 20 years ago. It amounts to a rallying call to eat British. And farmers refuse to see the common ground between the environmental movement and their business.

Here's a thought, all those on twitter facebook and such like arm yourself between now and monday with info and graphics from NFU, AHDB, TFF and the likes and when it all kicks off on monday counter attack with facts about UK ag.

Why wait for someone else to do it for you?

PS I do not have any social media accounts but am seriously considering it now!

I am paying the scouts to deliver the attached (much of it lifted off TFF) around our village, I consider it £60 well spent.
Am sorry to say that i've yet to see anything from the NFU or AHDB worth sharing. Would love to say otherwise.

Very factual but not very "sexy"
Needs graphics and colour to make it look readable?

Just watched food unwrapped on channel 4 they did a vegan program. One bloke was at a factory where they were going to great lengths to process veg within an inch of its life to look taste and bleed like a burger during the cooking process!

Now I like a decent burger as much as the next guy but come on!

If I want something to look and taste of meat the simple answer is to buy meat.

As for the meat free lookalike, tastealike burger yeah yeah it’s very clever processing, etc, but I think it’s wrong on so many levels. Good veg doesn’t need to be treated like that, it’s like a decent steak, chop, joint or sausage and can stand on its own merit, without needing to be turned into something that it isn’t!

As for Vegans, if there so against meat why do they want things that look and taste like meat but aren’t? I mean if you want a bloody veggie burger done well what’s so wrong with frying or grilling a great big mushroom with say a thick slice of caramelized onion on top? Stick it in a bread bun, bit of rabbit food as garnish, an interesting sauce, jobs a good un?

Edit- I’m sure other veg burger options are available. It was just the first thing to spring to mind!

What about the likes of Adam Henson, Matt Baker, Sara Cox? All farm kids at the BBC.
Henson especially still making a bob or 2 from uk agriculture. Why can't he do a programme highlighting the benefits of home produced seasonal food and grass fed red meat.
Or is it because they have now accepted the corporations shilling they can't possibly go against their paymasters biased and mis-leading opinions.
He'll soon have a whole bunch of other at risk species to add to his farm park.

If you want to have an insight on the politics of food and the ideas are good for humans to eat, which is not based on valid research but actually when back when religous beliefs, supposidly meat made you mastubate. I suggest you watch this video. Some of it is funny but some of it really makes you think that big corporations really are contolling our lives.
Its not a quack video, most of the audience are health proffesionals. If you want to miss the science start about 2.57
