AD047E9F-05A6-4F9B-B5DB-958E436E47C4.png I am a disabled Army Veteran of 20 years service but was unfortunately disabled out with both physical and mental disabilities (CPTSD). My physical injuries have now healed after many operations and have taken up the hobby as a means to help with my mental health as recommended by the Help For Heroes Charity.

I am insured through the NCMD up to the sum of £10,000,000 (please see attachment). I am middle aged, extremely honest and diligent.

I reside in the Durham area of the UK and would appreciate any of the farming forum in allowing me the opportunity to detect on land owned.

Best Regards
Steve

Since placing this advert no farmers have replied and I am convinced it is a result that all who swing a metal detector are non working, benefit scrounging, thieving toe rags.

Yes there may be some that meet that label, but tarring us all with the same brush couldn’t be further from the truth. I for one worked from the age of leaving school in 1980 until I joined the Army for over 20 years until being injured once too many and medically retired.

Throughout my career not one criminal offence was committed, which was lucky for me as part of my job was to investigate serious criminal offences committed by servicemen throughout the world, occasionally in what can be described as war zones.

My family has a strong law enforcement heritage from Newcastle to North Yorkshire,my son is a detective sergeant with a local constabulary investigating the type of unsavoury character that most farmers associate with those that metal detect.

Throughout the night my sleep is interrupted by the nightmares of my past and through the day i relive my traumatic experiences. Any escape from these is a necessity for both my family and myself.

It was Combat Stress”and “Help For Heroes” that recommended this hobby to me as I am unable to work due to my injuries. I find it to be a fascinating and engaging hobby and enjoy the historical study of finds and local history, the hobby itself has been recognised for the help it can bring to a person’s mental well-being.

Please don’t assume we are all the same!

Hope you find somewhere that can help. Maybe offer a bit of labour (busy time harvest), try popping into a farm shop and asking?
Look at it from the landowners perspective...... would you invite someone into your home, office & factory based on a post on an internet forum?
Tough as it maybe you can`t beat "boots on the ground" and talking to folk....the worst that will happen is they say "No".

Thanks for the response but with regards to offering labour that would not be on the cards as the best I can do is swing the machine and dig slightly, even then I wear a harness. I won’t door knock as I feel that I would be interfering with the working day.

So basically I’m left with either writing letters or posting here.
