  1. Sorry to change subject slightly but I do feel sorry for modern dairy cow, wether it's grazing grass or silage feed farmers trying get more and more milk from cows

    You have a point, I actually believe thin cows are not efficient, like huki type classification would have you believe.

    Bought some MRI bullocks once , easier to put meat on an iron hurdle . :poop:

    That’s the thing apart from a couple of feeders of straw their ration is gone by 4.30 in the afternoon.

    The problem we've had is we can't shave the concentrate level down too much as they will eat more forage!

    More straw will be our way forward. It’s just working out how to feed it to prevent bulling and good access

    tried them back in the 90's, some were good ,mostly not so good, the remainder ended up as suckler cows, they were good at that !!!

    Yeah we are already mixing in 2kg dm per animal we up it to 3 this week.

    I've a neighbour on 3 way cross (hols, Scandinavian, fleck) av 9000litres 364 calving interval

    Being a dual purpose breed if you happen to get the wrong type of MRI you'll will end up with a suckler cow .
