Was wondering why I was getting no joy out of my new, hard to find speedo cable, anyone know where I could find the part that connects speedo cable to splines on shaft ?
@Pennine Ploughing I know you know your stuff when it comes to this

It's missing the drive helical gear and shaft, and the bits that hold it,
You need to be a home owner to obtain that bit.

My guess is its been over run to fast, and shat it's self
Need to be a home owner?
does that mean I’m not getting it? I don’t see it being an off the shelf part but surely there is a few 20s and 50s in breakers yards that I could take the spanners too.

Also I never found parts in the bottom of sump and the oil was very old and dirty so it must have parted ways a long time ago

Home owner as in if you find one, you will need a mortgage to buy it,

I really would not know where you would get one, there is cables available but not helical gear drive shafts, or I have never come across any,

They worked but flimsy and not the best idea as they did not last

Contacted Dillions breakers here in Ireland and he has a 20e chassie with a mechanical speedometer, which he believes works and helical shaft is intact, would this be the same part as chassie is closer to that of my Massey 390 rather than a small 135? Will the part fit and do you have a photo of what I’m looking for. Also thanks for all the advice @Pennine Ploughing you have been a great help throughout my restoration project and this is the last thing I want to sort before reassembly begins

Vapormatic do a VPM5401 Gearbox Angle drive the cable goes into which might be what you need, try Carpenter Goodwin at Leominster as they do the Vapormatic parts range.

would think it would be the sort of thing someone would make... must be some money in it.

A tractor breakers in Donegal got back to me with a picture of one (below) off a 20e, different chassie and slightly different mechism on a different gearbox but it looks as if it could work, should I buy just the gear or save myself the hassle and buy whole assembly including gear, angle drive and cable ?

Aye that's the thingy, however I do not know if there is different sizes of them.
When you say a 20e, you sure its not just the same gearbox and backend

No backend is different but may share that same part, even the shaft is different, I’m not 100% sure on whether or not it is the same splines and will it work with my hollowed stud and cable or do I need angledrive, some pictures of 2135s online use the angle drive and I believe you need it even though my cable threads onto stud directly.

Didn’t do to bad for price, €120 after vat for whole assembly, from a local enough yard as well

They joys, photos were deceiving and it came with cable broken but I will have a go at fixing it, in fairness the breakers responded instantly and offered a full refund
