What about with a bit of load on it ? Lots of them still turn with like of a fert spinner

It's only scraper tractor and it's been a while since it was on anything else. So can't answer that

Be nice to know if its dual or independent then at least we can offer the correct advice rather than endlessly guessing

He might of fixed it and though thats great and not told us:LOL:

You can call me stupid bit how would I know that?

I wouldnt call you that at all
Did you have to clutch to get pto in before the issue or just engage pto lever with no clutch pressing
Ipto basicly means hydraulic live drive ie no dual clutch
Hope this helps

dose it have i lever on the left hand side of the seat next to the door, like the 1 in the picture,, you lift up a sleeve and move it forward a little to put pto in to gear, and it does not have ground drive on it ?

Ipto then

Check linkage under cab for a start stand at the back shine a light down the left side get some one to move lever and look if its moving the input lever through the castinginto gearbox

It's not a splitting job. It's a transmission top cover off affair. Cab up / off, first... unless you can take the floor out.

The iPTO and hydraulic pump live between the gearbox and the rear diff housing, in their own cosy little casing.

I think a 550 will be a disc rather than an arm type brake, so there's no cheating by going in through the side. I'm not 100% on that, though.

When we fitted a new auxiliary pump in the 690 we didn't take cab off, split it instead, supposedly that was the best / easy way to do it

its a pad type brake. you will see it thro the top cover and could replace it but i doubt it will cure your problem. the clutch drum will probably be grooved and the plates will probably be warped. it has to be split behind the spacer housing to remove the pack. cab can stay in place.

Good point.

Can you turn the PTO by hand when the tractor is switched off?

have you not a heavy pto machine that taks a lot of driving, back up to it, stop Engine, connect pto start Engine and. See if it drives it in gear and stops driving out of gear, tractor needs to be warm and at working temperature, so let it run for half hour at 1200 rpm before doing the test above,
remember once you take it apart, very very hard to test anything, and can be like trying to do a 1000 piece jigsaw in the dark, try to eliminate all things possible before taking apart, unless you know what is wrong
