Can anyone point me to what sensor picks up the tachometer drive ie Rev counter. Is it off the gearbox for instance?

That’s great , shall have a look
Ok removed two connectors off a sensor to the rear and above the oil filter, but it hasn't worked .I took a picture of its position , rested the phone on the tractor tyre and forgot it was there after a while ......... yes you've guessed it ran over it !!!!!!
Ill try with an old phone haha

The rev counter on a 6170 works of the alternator.
Check to make sure it's charging correctly to start with
Aye will do ,this old Hauwei phone is driving me crazy, I thought it was a sensor at the side of gearbox, well that was what the previous reply said .
Not this then, hopefully its where I was told it was.

That’s a form of pressure switch, apologies with the speed sensor, it must be 62 onwards that use the rear axle sensor then as they don’t have a W terminal on alternator and I was surprised to see rev counter still working when belt broke but was told later that they use the rear axle sensor.

OK so youre saying that its the alternator that sends the signal. Wouldnt be sure how to test that apart from the fact that I can check charging , two other spade outlets I notice. Ill be back !Thank you.

Removed and replaced the terminals on the alternator , the Wterminal could be one of two , one of them is a little black box on a 8mm nut , could this be the terminal to look at.

Unless the 6170 is different from the rest it uses the sensor in the photo just beside what should be a hydraulic high pressure output outlet. It should be the sensor with the sheathing about a foot long in the above photo... I'll try to find a parts diagram for reference...

Found the pic - should also note that the other statement about charging voltage also should be correct - tach requires charging circuit if memory serves - to work...

Unless I'm not seeing the picture correctly - it should be the one about in the middle of the photo slightly to the left - might want to try washing everything off good with a pressure washer or something before digging in.

Hopefully cleaned enough to identify.
Would it be the one that you pointed out, I dont see the foot long sheath , or is that the wire protection? 20210720_210932.jpg

Tacho sensor , was a tad loose in its mount , as I was unable to view it properly as I have loader frame running past the area, I tightened what seemed like a nut .I checked for running and no luck , I then screwed the body in as the sensor has a magnectic pick up , to faintly feel a running shaft then screwed back a tad, this didny help so i am looking at a new one I think .

You can unplug it and measure its resistance. Sorry but I don’t know what it should be though without digging a manual out. Someone on here may know?
A job finding the plug , sensor. seems fixed to the cable as it was twisting while unscrewing and couldnt see it's joint or connector beneath the cab , looks like.
