Years ago a chap l know of chopped his American built MF 1100 in for one. Apparently it wasn't a patch on his 1100.

I think I'll save up for a Renault 630Z instead.

My tractors are half work horse, half restoration project, but there is a limit to how much wear and tear and old school noisy rough cab I can tolerate.

Should have kept it, would take it over a 399 any day  Only the slow top speed that counts against it.

The gate change looks and feels like something a Citroen designer would have thought out. Not keen of it. I like the engine and what appears to be a robust back end, but I think that tinwork has beyond the point where I could restore it. Holes.
If Citroen designed it it would be better. Don't forget Monsieur Citroen improved and mass produced the double helical gear we all know and love.

WE had a 2620 and that sounded like a bag of bolts 3120 with the 6ltr phaser was a far nicer sounding engine. Was told the 2620 had a lower compression ratio and it was a bugger to start even when it was new it never refused to go but just spun on for a while before fireing.

That would be right the 699 and the 2620 were derated to 95 hp the 699 came new with an ether injector instead of a heater ,easy, start on a new tractor  they werent getting enough fuel to get them to fire the 699 here was fitted with a heater the week it came new ,I hate airo start , then the pump was reset to 108 hp that sorted the driech starting ,it left here with 9998 hrs and still pulled like a train.

Its still the same today but when we bought the 2620 it was a certain % cheaper than a 2640 both tractors being identical ,same size wheels/ tyre and to fit 4wd it was the same % of price of tractor, so it was cheaper to fit 4wd to a 2620 than it was for the 2640 and the kit was the same on both. Pity we didn't screw the pump open a tad.

Was that a 6 354.4 rather than 6 354? My jcb 805b 6 354.4 was a bitch to start, it was well worn mind you, I replaced it with a older 6 354 from a combine, just like the 1200 it starts very easy
