As the above, got one here. Had its brakes checked 6 months ago and got new pads etc, as they were just at the point of going. Gearbox SEEMS OK, always serviced by dealer. Should I schedule an engine rebuild? Anything else to worry about. Its a good tractor, should have bought 5!

Is this a recent purchase or have you had it a while.is it running ok using oil or bad to start. I wouldn’t worry if it’s ok.i had a t2 one on loan 3years ago while waiting for our 6499 to be delivered.if I’d had the money I would have kept both

Had it since new, always been properly serviced. Never done a lot of really heavy work, carting, potato planting, destoning, straw spreading, bit of ploughing.

You have a tractor there not worth much run it for as long as you can, repair cost will be less than finance on a new one

The larger framed 6400 series. From 6485 upwards had issues with 3 rd gear bearings / synchros . Front axle suspension bearings guilty of failure as they are sealed non greasable bearings engines are bullet proof except maybe a water pump and fuel relief valves . I would think you could continue to operate and maintain tractor for less money than to change to a similar HP tractor just keep a little money aside for running repairs and it will do you well . Trouble is if you replace with second hand machine you may not know it’s history /abuse as they say better the devil you know

Id say keep her lit while she goes. No point worryin about the what ifs. Usually its somethin ur not expectin to break the needs money spent on it instead of somethin uv been thinkin about. The engine should be good for while yet

But we are always going on about running stuff longer to keep costs down so maybe a bit of stitch in time! Is it worth getting oil tested?
How would it be cheaper doin engine now or later? Id stil need new pistons, injectors serviced, head done, crank polished, new oil pump and so on

Probably not a bad idea to have it tested.
Who's going to do the work? You really need to talk to someone that actually works on these engines. If it's worrying you spend a bit of time tracking an engine builder down.

I very much doubt it would cost any more to have the engine done up after a failure unless part of it came out through the block which would be very unlucky and very often going into something looking for problems may just loosen something up that wasn’t going be an issue else.
If getting oils tested check front hubs and axle and if feeling flush put a couple of grand away in case of a problem rather than creating one
