I'd be amazed if TFF had that effect on milk pricing.

But milk production is high, prices are fairly reasonable, plentiful stocks of good silage...it does set an alarm in my head.

I could be over thinking it though

perhaps it's time to look at high quality silage, and use it to its maximum, take a small drop in milk yield. but with less expensive concentrates.

and here we are, a spring calving herd, been feeding the cows for 7 weeks, with silage, hay and rolled barley, as we have had virtually no rain all here ! So much for saving money with grass cows, but what do you do, if grass growth is b all, and not enough to keep the cows fed ?

You must have had some rain by now. Emptied my rain gauge this morning . last emptied beginning of August.

this last lot has given us a decent amount, the first since mid aug - that was enough to get the forage rape, behind w/crop going well. Grass, it's only now we are getting any real grass growth, and really its to late .
farms, near us, ie 1/2 mile away, have had more rain, we must have really upset the rain gods ! The reseeding costs this autumn will be way over budget, simply 30 acres of leys, have just died off, and we will have to oversow another 50 acres ! we were better off in '76, at least the cows had a pick then.

Muller increasing the seasonality penalty on spring milk

Potentially-10.5p on all litres for extreme profile.

Thoughts?

are they hitting the spring milk because of
1) they really want level production
2) they cannot cope with the spring flush
or 3) they are using it as an excuse to clobber us
we all hear about the flush, but price of milk, butter, cheese etc does not change, in fact, it was always said that spring milk made the best cheese, and powder is now easily stored, if as above, they take 10.5 p of the price of 'profile', there should be a bloody good profit on that, whichever way you look at it. And we have all been conditioned to the spring flush, so we never query it.
