Well that's not cricket!

Seems a contract is a contract unless it's a milk contract! Could you see the farmer being allowed to pull out if the price went to 40ppl?
I guess they are claiming force majore?

Is voiding a contract and getting 22ppl better for a farmer than having to be paid 26ppl and going them bust?
the threat is, if you take legal action, we wont pick your milk up, sue us, we will go under, you will get nothing, where do you go from there ? Stopping you leaving, is simply greed, they are selling milk, for more than they pay, if they cant, they tell you to dump it. Farmers are in a tricky situation, do you struggle on, borrow more to see you through ? How long will it last, etc, for some, perhaps it is time to leave, better now, than 'death by a 1000 cuts'. A large x3 day dairy near here, moved the cows in a week ! A lot of serious thinking needs to happen.

Yep know of a estate farm where the cows have all gone. Business decision made.
Guess it will all go under the plough for a digestor nearby

I’d be extremely cautious of any buyer who’s business is solely reliant of fillings gaps in a market and not having a fixed home for its milk
Heard County had investments in a drying plant and also have the ability to utilise Yew Tree on fixed volume delivered basis. So not wholly committed to filling gaps in the market. This takes away not having an home for their supply as per the previous years, 2016 for example.

When will you farmers realise that the directors of companies who systematically breach contracts to enhance their own position will continue to do these underhand acts to the expense of individual farmers . My advice is steer clear of those who C ant Milk P olitely and M ust F inance themselves to detriment of suppliers both individual and indeed corporate. Time for contracts to be regulated in some manner??

We'll be getting more information later this week with them explaining exactly what's happening I hope. As someone else said they've invested in drying plants which have been running flat out with the idea to smooth out the ride. This seems to be returning only marginally better returns than spot price and I do wonder if they'll be able to recover as quick as they did in 2016 when demand went back up.
At the end of the day any private owned company is always going to put their own business above anyone else's

I haven't done the numbers but it would be interesting to know at which point the seasonality penalty in the spring became greater than the benefits of the system. When would it warrant shifting the calving pattern?
