Milk Price Tracker

That’s fine. But when I have previously asked some on here whether they have done the budgets to back up the moaning I get nothing in reply.
hysteria.
I understand that side too, it doesn't mean that people can't worry about the price of things though, I was panicking about buying more fert, I sat down did the figures and bought it, doesn't mean I stopped worrying about it though, 10k is still 10k after all

The above does not include osmco

And maybe you before too long! The situation regarding inputs is changing so fast and people that haven't forward bought or are coming out of contract are being badly caught out. One thing for certain is that the retailers aren't going to be rising prices to keep up as they are trying desperately to retain market share and keep costs low to consumers.

Lucky you as every way i do my figures they look hellish! I'm hoping for a good summer at grass and that cost settle down to a more manageable level. One other thing to remember is that your processor is going to be facing the same cost pressures so i hope they have done their figures too.

What happens if those figures change overnight and suddenly you're losing money? That's the issue I have, everything is so uncertain at the moment its scary. Fine if you have contracted your main inputs, some haven't, some won't have been able to

And OK, say people are profitable now, just as an example, what about those supplying freshways during the pandemic when they were being paid 14ppl or whatever sh!t price it was, they will have most likely racked up a huge debt, and ok they're being paid better now, but what if it suddenly happens again and now inputs are through the roof?? Where do they go?

What about those that have invested a huge amount into a particular system and now find that system unviable because of inputs but can't really afford to change to a different system

The truth of the matter is every situation is going to be different, just because you can make money doesn't mean everyone can, and it's fair your asking for evidence that people can't make money, but there may be a reason that people don't want to explain why they can't afford to pay for things on here

It is scary at the moment for some and it's really not fair to say that people aren't allowed to worry because there's people being bombed.

If I broke my arm and went to hospital I'm just as entitled to treatment as the person who's just had a heart attack, his situation may be worse but that doesn't negate the fact I'm in pain

Have already said I was lucky with the fert and feed for 2022.
but I have done budgets at far higher costs and it still works.
I’ll go with that the now aswell. All invoices settled here up to date and paying down some overdraft. Really strong position for me the now problem is 12 months time expensive forage etc in clamp and milk at 10ppl less for example.

How can they be chilled if their moaning. I’m an evidence based person. Show me the evidence that the milk price isn’t keeping up with inflation. If it’s there then fine complain away. If not then shut the f up.there are people dying in a war on the continent of Europe.

I think part of the problem is that we have seen some decent milk price rises but yet to produce the milk at these prices so not yet had the extra cash in the bank.

Budgets are great but it's until the cash hits the bank that my mind is settled.

Genuine question.... What are you bugeting 2023 fertiliser at and will you spread the same/similar amount to previous years?
We have reduced our usage down to 170kg a hectare.
hope to go lower still this season.
through better use of our Seperated dirty water and an increased area that will not see any bagged N
So for 2023 we are aiming at buying 50!tonnes of urea (with some sulphur)
Which will take us down to 130kgs per hec
So I am guessing that will cost us 38k
Which is less than a penny more than we spent last yr.

Before commenting, I agree how horrific the situation in the Ukraine is for the population and that our worries are nothing to what they face.

What we don't know is the effect on the dairies. Supermarkets are resisting price rises and the dairy costs are going to jump, fuel for collection & delivery, plastic, and energy at the dairy. There has to a risk some buyers will reduce prices to reflect this. Therefore you need to stress test any budget with a 2ppl price drop. It is also possible your energy supplier and feed supplier may call force majeure on your contracts, so I would stress test that using 40p per unit electric and £400 on feed. I believe quite a lot of protein booked for next winter was due to come from the Ukraine where do you stand if that was your feed (or the feed your compounder ordered to make the feed) you have booked?

However their is also clearly potentially an upside which I am pretty certain will overcome these risks so whilst the immediate short term may result in some frightening volatility we should all be OK in the longer run.
