To ensure who makes a margin
The processors. I appreciate Arla are member owned but I don't believe the current prices are anything to do ensuring farmers get a fair price, there has been plenty of opportunity for that before. It's to ensure they get the milk to process and are passing on increased costs to the end user.

I bet the retailers weren't that happy as the price was pushed through.
So butter is worth 6000 pounds a ton in bulk.
Arla are selling branded butter at the end of the retail chain including the retailer margin packaging and delivery to purchaser for 10,000 a ton doesn't actually really sound an unfair margin to me.

Are FM farmers paid a premium for this?
Think the Original plan is they would be but if you look at the milk price FM are currently paying I would say it is money they should have been getting anyway.

Possibly the way all farms are going to have to go at some point and it will be surprising how many already farming in a "regenerative" way.

Have you got a bit of underlying acidosis going on there? Our fats crashed last autumn to some stupidly low level and that seemed to be the cause
I don't think so (atleast not anymore - possibly in the spring) they're having acid buffer in the cake as a precaution, access to rock salt etc
They hit a low of 3.5% which is the same as last year. 4% last month now up to 4.4%, but I expect by Christmas to be near 6%. Last years I averaged 4.8% fat over the year

My springs when they did the 3.5% were yielding an average of 35 litres as well so no doubt that was a combination of everything too

Yes, but yield is on the way down now, and they have had silage as needed. There's a direct corellation between my fat and when silage has been put in - it literally jumps 0.5% every damn time without fail.
