Had P2s and a P3 make well over £1000 last week at 385 base
had an NRx come back, at £1375, after xmas. Paid £1650 for her fresh, 11,000 litres of milk, would have preferred she got i/c, she didn't, and like some xbreds, started to dry herself off.
trouble is, they don't all do that.

Damaging carbon footprint?

How many lactation?
At purchase value I would imagine 2nd calver, her 1st heifer wouldn't have quite replaced her?

Unchanged until may when a solar/battery scheme will hopefully have a big impact.
Given the higher electric export rates and dairies abilty to store surplus energy as heat and ice , will batteries stack up ?
Genuine question as we are putting 50kw of solar in but were told we would be lucky to get batteries to pay back in their lifetime and so interested in different views.
Maybe we should have a eletric cost price tracker on here, we have just renewed for the 1st of april and found the cheapest to be up to 20p/unit below the other 5 quotes !

I was told the same, and batteries and power demands of robots don't tie together nicely

Her carbon footprint should be fine as she went as meat and quite a lot of it so all her rearing footprint for two years will be much the same as a beef animal reared to the same weight so shouldn't count on the milk side of the equation.

I have strange logic when it comes to investments I fully admit. The questions I ask are firstly will it make the business more resilient. Will it mean I sleep better. Will it improve animal and staff welfare(when relevant) then comes the question of return on capital.
my reasons for batteries is that 75% of solar energy comes between 10am and 2pm. And we don’t milk then so the batteries are intended to this and any compressor work required after evening milking. Spring block really suits solar.

You really have to measure your electric use (we are doing it through the zappi charger). If our electric price averaged between day and night 50p we think we could save £1800ish per year

This was our generation for January 32kw system yesterday generation was 15kw

Usage (10kw of solar brings red usage lines down.

Could be done better with more detail but good enough for rough calculations.

Battery technology too sh!t and too expensive.

Maybe one day the government will wake up and subsidies mass slurry digestors. That solves 4 problems in one. Use for slurry. Source of gas. Source of electric. Source of fertiliser.
Just a shame you hear more people having trouble with them than anything.
I know the big ad plant around penrith (greengill) just gone bang. Theyve had to restart the whole thing. Have been buying Hull muck and slurry of us.
