We have a Perten 9500. NIR machine that we have run for a few years, it was very expensive and had an expensive failure this harvest leaving us with a big bill (which would have been even bigger had the supplier (Calibre Control) not stepped up to support it

We have the machine coming back soon basically new but I’m wondering if I should sell it and get something cheaper ?

When we ran our commercial grain stores it was essential to have a network connected top notch machine but today we don’t really need that level of testing

Having had oil / protein testing though I would rather not go without so question is what other (cheaper) testing machines exist that I should maybe look at ?

Its the 9500 or the foss nova/infracont if you want to do all of these. The 9500 is a good machine and failures are rare.......................... Calibre have launched a cheaper machine but that i dont believe will do what you want.

There is a Perten 8500 that I think does oil and protein ? have you had any experience?

Calibre does the grain sense and we had one on loan this harvest, didn't impress me enough to want to buy one though

not wanting to worry you re the 9500 but ours was only 4 years old and would have cost over 10k to repair had Calibre not helped a bit (it was still very expensive though !) Makes me question the sanity of keeping such a machine

It has had other repairs in the past (more minor stuff admittedly)

How accurate and expensive are the grain quality devises installed on combines? Could one be installed onto a store intake elevator? May not be the answer for a large farm store taking in multiple customers grain but acceptable for a single user.
