Money owed

Thats theft, and the police won't think of the £500 you're owed, its not your property. Courts exist for a reason, this isn't the wild west
Some still treat it like the wild west and just don't pay anyone until their arm is metaphorically twisted. After expanding into a new area a business was facing a large debt from a new customer. When they asked a local what they could do they were told there were guys who would break a kneecap for £200. A big of negotiation got the debt paid in instalments without any Equaliser treatment.
I cannot understand why assets are not seized after a court order as I know of several examples where a solicitor turns up with a letter and wagon driver to load up a tractor or cattle going to a market and no money returning to the owner.
If you cannot pay £500 then you are almost bust next week. Offer to take 25 bales as replacement if they don't have cash.

Local fertilizer dealer here got stung fir a quarter million a few years back, manager friend said they did the court route and got a structured payment arrangement in place thru the courts, after first payment nothing more was paid and dealer had to swallow the loss. Fir the 500 pounds I’d ask one last time making it clear that non payment will involve either the courts or a debt collector

I would go round and see them at there house early in the morning, catch them unaware and give them the option to pay you with a bit for kit/ tools, at least you get something and them put him on your no work list.

The fertiliser company must have been soft to lose quarter million unless the farmer went bust and the banks got first bite. Surely they had some assets?

I've been in someone's yard at 0700 with no notice more than once.

I take a bottle of whisky, thank them for their business then smile politely and ask them to clear the outstanding invoice. I generally leave with a cheque, and they go on my customer blacklist.

Can I get a debt collector on someone who owes me since 2014

Just the revengeful leg-breakers as I think a debt is waived after 6 years

A debt is statute barred i.e. cannot be collected, after 6 years from it was last acknowledged.

12 years if it related to a debt on land e.g. a mortgage.

The important bit is the point it was last acknowledged as a debt. Why can you not walk away from you mortgage after 6 or 12 years - because you acknowledge it every month by making a part payment of the debt.

If the person has not acknowledged the debt since 2014, then you are out of time and cannot legally collect the debt. If at any time he has acknowledged he owes you money, the the clock resets and the 6 year period starts again.

If someone is determined not to pay, there's not a lot you can do.

Debt collectors just use threats in nasty letters to coerce people into paying.

Even if you take someone to Court and win, there's still no guarantee they'll pay. Then you are into Bailiffs etc, which just cost you more money.

But if you've a court judgement against them, you can state that in public without them having any redress against you or way to deny it. That can be very satisfying.;)

"Don't deal with xyz because I did and I had to take them to court to get my money".
