There is a post running on social media about a 5 ton volvo digger with a really knackered slew ring with low hours on the machine and owner ain’t happy so posted a clip showing wear which is worst I’ve ever seen.the chap has 60 volvo diggers too.he is not getting anywhere so posted it probably out of annoyance.anyway I posted an issue I have, namely a split gator under the left hand controls in my 2.5 ton machine which split 3 months out of warranty probably 18 months ago now.dealer did not want to know but could sell me a new one at £200.I was contacted by a total stranger on messenger asking about my issue and he said he was volvo northern area service manager.at dinner time I got a call from my dealer saying volvo had been in touch and told them to send me the damaged and split part free of charge and I also learnt what happening behind the scenes on the slew ring problem.i later received a call from smt volvo saying they had authorised the replacement and could I put it on social media that they had helped me out which I have done.i reckon it probably pays to go above dealers with issues and if the manufacturers and suppliers don’t know about things they cannot respond and they only get told certain things by their dealers and not everything.at least the issue has been resolved to restore my faith in them again, but it could have been sorted a lot sooner.

There’s good and bad in all dealers.

Our local blue dealer the boss man came to see me once to explain that our new baler wouldn’t be here in time. But we could have use of a pre production model they had in the yard until ours arrived. As it happened when ours did arrive they left the pre pro machine with us for another month as goodwill. Couldn’t ask for more in good service.

Local Red dealer I went to see service manager 8 months ago to ask them to come out and have a look at a gearbox issue on a used tractor we bought from them a couple years before. Still not seen hide nor hare of them.

As a result my most recent tractor purchase was a blue one. As I know where the service and back up is best.

Case has good backup, but our green one had its head gasket go bang. Dealer didn't want to contact manufacturer about it, even though they surely knew it was a common problem. We contacted the manufacturer and all they had to say is that we can have a new gasket free of charge. :ROFLMAO: To be fair, atleast that's something.

Would this be anything to do with Volvo being Scandinavian and having a different culture to the norm that is usually found with fudge you capitalism?
Who knows.been chatting to the chap who originally contacted me this morning to see if I got everything sorted out and he was most apologetic and the dealer had never informed volvo of the issue.ive had a call from area manager apologising and also telling me they had not heard of the issue from dealer but any more problems to contact him direct.

Maybe the dealer has to contribute to some the work.. provide free labour?

I’m going to fit the part.dont look too difficult.its just a big rubber and plastic concertina bit that expands and contracts as control lever is lifted to get in and out and it covers hydraulic pipes and a few wires.with it being split a lot of hot air from the engine and hydraulics gets blown into the cab.
Which would be why they moved excavator production out of Scandinavia to the Far East over 20 years ago like every other neoliberal capitalist manufacturer I suppose?
volvo bought Samsung a while back that’s why the bigger stuff is Korean built.i personally prefer Case excavators at 13 ton plus sizes.the French factory was the old pel job factory that volvo also purchased 20 years ago so both places where already making machines prior to volvo purchasing them

I think a lot depends on who fits them, those that know what they're doing say they don't see them again.
Of course if the original failed because the driver overheated it, or its chipped to the moon, its at risk of happening again.
