The old JCB s are crap forget them pumps never lasted and were no good when they were good . like a worn out old man . I changed mine for JS 130 many years ago and its been fantastic . never complain and even though its getting old it works like a spring chicken

So, if it is a rebadged EX100-5/EX110-5 & not a Zaxis 110-1,
How much of a difference does it make, as in what changed between the last of the EX's and the early Zaxis's.

Thomas, see link att;

https://www.hitachicm.com/global/company/company-profile/company-history/

states the Zaxis was introduced June 2000, though when the first models reached the UK or Irish markets is a moot point.
Never knew that, maybe a crossover between the EXs and the Zxs, our EX60-5 is 2002 and so is our EX30-2

Strong possibility your diggers were new old stock, sold at a suitable discount,
or even sold at a surcharge(=list price) if mainstream buyers were wary of all the new-fangled electronic gizmos on the newly introduced model!
cheers

Just looked into it more there and the first ZX introduced was the 450 in 2001, followed by more 8 more models in 2002, so ours are the very last ex's by the looks of it

To re-fresh thissun, I am still idly looking for a digger,
whilst mostly foccused on finishing the dwelling I started in 1995, like finally getting kerbs and Asphalt down, and lawns/garden sorted.
The strong Export trade is still hurting my choices, but not much to be done about that.
Anyway, how delusioned would I be to consider offering on;

I reckon they overdone the long reach, but fixable. . .

I think it’s overpriced - finding a buyer who wants that machine with a long reach is limited. You could always find another dippper and boom from a scrap machine - but as it is it will be a pain using it and also very awkward to load trailers or trucks - plus you will be sat a long way from whatever you are digging which makes visibility an issue

Well I got a serious, and possibly irrational liking for Deutz engines, and German engineering.
I am also prepared to gamble on other-than-mainstream under-recognised brands, since for me any extended downtime awaiting parts is not a critical issue,
and there should be less competitive interest, therefore a lower price for a comparable product.
But most anything else in that handy weight class has very limited/too short reach for me,
plus its on new, too new? steel tracks, like why only 10 hours on?
However even I am aware they well over-egged the long reach bit, it just looks plain downright wrong and very cumbersome,
but surely the jib/dipper arm is easier shortened than lengthened?.
never mind the asking price,
Anyway, only idly pondering my options.
thanks for the contributions
Marcus
p.s.
With my 60 year old failing eyesight, visibility is an reluctantly accepted issue, as mentioned.

The one thing I am certain of is I need steel tracks, to carry in the Moss, which notion was confirmed v recently in conversation with a local part time farmer/digger owner.
Mind you if our current brilliant N I weather continues much longer I will be able to access the Moss with a rubber duck or even an old 3CX.

Well having trawled the web, I came back to Proctor Plant Sales, Driffield,
who appear to stock a selection of mid sized diggers, and per a search, are reputable.
looking at the 2006 Hitachi ZX80SBLC in particular,
so I might just take a run over.
Will I be driving past any bargains elsewhere iffen I go that length?
cheers

Zetor,
I imagine I need something a bit bigger, with more reach, like the ZX80 has about 6.5m reach, which seems "on the money" for my needs.
P.S.
What is "grip blocking"?

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
