They can be after you. I had lots of emails and letters but until its signed off nothing they can do.
Thats interesting information,,A lady here has allways lived in properties that belonged to her parents but when they both developed Alzheimer ,she had a big house built on the families land and the huse the lady was living in was sold to fund the new place .
She moved in with her parents so that she could care for them .
This new house has never been signed of as some of the building work didnt meet building regs ,the work has never been rectified ,so it couldnt be signed of so it makes the house worthless and uninsurable
two weeks ago her mother passed away and her father is going down hill .
I think when her father passes away ,there is going to be allmighty kick off as her brothers will want it selling to split the money

Lived in my last house over a year before it was "complete" not a problem for building regs

Never use the council for building regs - 3rd party companies are cheaper and much easier to deal with
Ive used third party companies too,to get insurance which you need to sell new builds.council have to come and inspect, footings, oversite, top of plate and final inspection including roof.its compulsory here and i thought it would be uk wide.its just ridiculous but thats the rules.you are hardly not going to do it right.

don't have to have council visit here at all, 3rd party does the entire job

We swapped houses with my parents in 2002. 1 mile. Just used two 4x4 with a stock trailer each. Full loads both ways. All done in one day. Never again!

Have moved home more than 5 times since leaving university in 2002. Most recently last month. It is not tricky. The wives make it tricky. If it were down to me most of the crap would have gone in the skip or on the fire. You really need very little stuff. Pay Royal Mail to redirect all post for 6 months.
I really wish I had your resolve. My Daughter is great. " do you really need the Mother". We have lived here since 1985, you can really hord some stuff in a big old farm house!
That deserves a thousand likes.im suprised ive not had a heart attack with some of the stuff ive tolerated, and im being serious

Oh I am so with you on that one. I've lost weight and I'm sure I didn't have this many gray hairs before we started.

Wait till you have been in the same house for 35 years and see what junk gets accumulated!
I have pallet boxes on the garden. Fill one with stuff to move and another for charity shop and another for skip and another for storage. Guess which is filling quickest!

I'm now on my sixth address, after 6 moves, including moving out of the original family home twice and living in a static caravan for 5 years.

Moving again would be my worst nightmare.

I cannot bear to throw anything out and accumulated a mountain of stuff when the original family home was sold, as both my brothers were living overseas.

If I moved to a 58 bedroom stately home I could easily fill every room of it with bits & bobs :banghead:
