Does anyone know how the RPA/Natural England calculate the size of muck store you can get a grant for? I was told that it was based on the average number of cattle on the holding but can’t seem to find the actual calculation.

With ours we just said what we wanted (its bigger than our stock would justify) and they gave approval.
What size did you go for? We have 300 feeding cattle housed all year round so need plenty of room.

How did you go about applying? What did you need in place before you let them know? Were after putting up a 90'x40'x16' for a muck store and loafing yard, ideally this year as it's a bl**dy mess here at the moment

The slurry wizard calculator is a good start. If you are in a catchment sensitive area you can get Someone in to do a farm infrastructure report. It’s free and does all your calculations, will also do your yard drainage maps which EA are asking for now, definitely worth doing if your going for the grant. “Independent” data helps your case
I am a year into the planning process for the grant. It has been very challenging could say a lot but don’t want to publicly yet. There was an update from DEFRA in early february saying that low risk applications should be allowed. This may help new applications but i am not sure yet.

Sorry for the thread hijack do these grant cover roofed stores for fym or is it just slurry?

When I got mine it was so much per square metre upto £10,000. That was for water catchment area when we had a sensible catchment sensitive officer. Got a 100 x 50 out of it no walls or floor

Cost now not limited but they do require you to do floor and walls to meet ssafo regs in return for the grant

There are different grants, CSF do a grant to cover existing store as i understand it both slurry and fym. The infrastructure grant is for slurry stores, as i understand it you can get expand an existing store. It will definitely have to be covered.

There is a calculation they use I was told first hand.
the shed area I asked for was the correct size for our muck plié in my view .. but the chap said on the site visit that you can still tip in the fields so offered half the required size needed . Also saying stack it in the shed 4m deep with 4m high walls.
Idiot was my conclusion. So did all the maps & drains of my yard for them for a shed the size of a small stamp.would I do it again nope.
Simular experience on the concreting grant just been round round mid summer with the tarmac chippings all nice and tidy and dry. And he said nope nothing wrong here it’s all mint.
Mid winter not looking good now .
They’re impossible to deal with and can’t see anything other than their view. I was probably just unlucky with the fields man but wouldn’t with it would be my advice.

Be an active Farmer( bps )and have livestock I think own or rent the land with planning permission for the shed and associated works. And an agent to complete the forums.
Any photos of what you put up we going for same size but only 20’ to the eaves.

I put a 96 x 48 and 15 foot to eaves up yes I know random size but that was the stoned area I was using for a midden at the time. Basically that was what 50% or £10,000 got at the time on csf. Concreted and paneled round it at my cost after
