I have seen an increase in rodents both rats and mice, but have also seen an increase in birds of prey and pleasingly Barn Owls who persumably are all beneficiaries of the increase in prey. I wonder if the French landscape with less hedgerows has fewer birds of prey? Or if they have reduced hunting ranges?

These circles in a rape crop each have a mouse hole in the middle. There were about six of them in a row. It was 2010 and I didn't see them again the next year. Never did work out if they had eaten the seed or the plants.
