Warranty means very little, can Claas put in an 8700 if yours packs up? For that acreage I'd not consider it as an option, between you you already have a better solution
Keeping the two existing machines isn’t really an option. Ones 30 yrs old the other 25. Basically worn out so we’ve all got to do something and looking around the used market is £100k to get something decent but again well used

How does the buyback work, will they pay you an agreed price or is it an allowance towards new combine?

Agreed price I’m told. One of the other guys has been speaking to our dealer so I haven’t had any direct contact yet. They are coming out this month before the price rises I’m told so we’ll get the details then.

Has anyone ever bought at machine without an impending price rise deadline? Does my head in, I’m sure it’s just a ruse to get a sale over the line

I don't disagree with your theory, I've often wondered about modular engines on machines so you could take an high hp engine out of a combine and put in a tractor for cultivating.
But I also think, realistically, what would a trailed combine cost to buy new? Something capable of cutting 250 acres say? Got to be north of 100k I'd guess, probably more. 100k buys a lot of second hand combine for 250 acres.
no need google nexat watching it a a big coop in ukraine 1000 hp 25 ton tank wheel at each corner like old gantry system

Lexion 770, New Holland CR, S690? If you could find a 770 that's been on maxicare and had a year or so left of maxicare you'd benefit from the first owner taking the huge hit on initial depreciation. Or a pair of 570s in good order if you've drivers available.... gives the option to split them up and 2 drying systems to spread the load over would romp through 2000 acres.

I have often seen two combines work well in a season where a novice operator follows a more experienced man around in the second machine and uses his settings. Once the OSR is cut and away and some barley or wheat is cut the less experienced operator will have a handle on it and be able to get the thing to cut although perhaps not as optimally as the man who has some serious trigger time behind him.

Experienced operators can also be set in there ways and the young one can more easily adjust to new technologies

If buying a new rotary combine. What percentage depreciation would people suggest after just one year?
Really hard to put a figure on it, but there's a 2022 x9 for sale at 400 odd k... apparently £1m combine new?! Been funny times on kit last 5 years, new price rises have held sh up to a certain extent

I keep wondering about all these dealers selling off there ex demo machines. They lop a few grand off and say it's a great deal.

My argument with them is it's now second hand and should be priced on that basis.

It's not like a tractor that can be used all year round. The dealer has used it for a whole season, just because they stick a new number plate on it, doesn't hide the fact that it is second hand.

Yet people seem to pay their prices. 🤔🤷

3 of us are thinking of running a combine together and we’ve just had a price on a claas 8700tt. Pretty standard machine plus cemos auto, 12.3m header and extended spout. On farm verbal price to be confirmed £450k for the combine and £90k for the convio header. They are sending us a deal with a confirmed buyback after 5 years. I don’t think it included the service package though which I’m sure we’ll need on top for the buyback option.
Does the 90k get you the flex header?

Trouble is dealers get very slim allowances these days for demonstrators, guess the only saving grace is that it's available right there and then and generally they come with full warranty and the niggles ironed out.... depends if you're a patient man or want it now! I'm very patient, happy to wait 15-20 years for the real discount...

I agree, wasn't fair pointing at dealers. It's more the manufacturer pushing their dealers to promote their products, yet expect the customer to take most of the first year depreciation hit by calling it ex demo.

If I bought a new combine, used it for a season then tried to sell it back to dealer saying I was just trying it for a season. Would they give me most of my money back?

No. They would say its second hand.
