280Ac cereals and sheep and an interest in a business that provides nationwide soil/substrate moisture and weather monitoring services, primarily but not exclusively relating to decision support for field crop irrigation and automated irrigation in soft fruit.... you?
I’m a beef and sheep farmer on hill and moorland

I would be if it was arriving here... enjoy it whilst it last because the current bubble is entirely disconnected from cuts to BPS and prices are still less than it in the 1980s when accounting for inflation.
It is here the shops are full of it
However why is our lamb twice the price?
I thought you said imports set prices?
Maybe not in many cases
Fancy that

Honest answer is I have no idea why domestic prices are currently so much higher than imported lamb right now, how do you explain it? I know one thing for certainty, there is no economic mechanism that would form a link between the declining value of BPS and the price buyers are willing to pay for lamb. Correct me if I am wrong but Welsh and Scottish lamb is trading at much the same value as English lamb, as I understand it they are still getting full BPS...

Are you selling your lamb at the same price as New Zealand and Australia at the moment?
You can say you don’t know if you like

Ok so you’ve just stated now that imports don’t set prices so what does. Supply and demand, production costs effecting supply, support payments that affect supply?
Oh look we are back where we started 🤓

So now you say imports don’t set prices?
That was a quick change of mind
They most certainly do in most instances. Short term price inequalities on that scale correct themselves one way or the other as either consumers or supply chains adjust. Perhaps the NZ imports don't meat the Halal requirements of our main customers? 🤷‍♂️

What's spiked the lamb price is the boats are having to go round the long way because of the red sea pirates, creating a temporary shortage.
