New shed roof pitch

What is the lowest degree roof pitch possible on a new build steel framed shed with fibre cement roof? Have some power lines going over the top of an area we want to put a new shed and want the tallest eave height possible but to keep the ridge at the right distance away from the power lines.

5° from memory, you need to overlap the sheets more and run a bead of sealant along all the joints of it *will* leak.

I think anything less than 10 degrees needs sealing.

It'd be worth phoning Eternit and asking their technical support.

Else you could consider metal sheeting as they can be pretty low pitch.

What sort of power lines are they?

3 phase power lines….been told the shed needs to be 4.3 metres away from conductor..?

You definitely need to talk to your Electricity distribution operator (DNO) before you go much further.

You need to think about construction and maintenance as well - it'll be shed roof plus, say, 2m for someone to be able to safely attach the roof sheets. I know the HSE have prosecuted because a farmer asked for sheds to be built under power lines without doing it safely.

There was a wheeze going round about suing for lack of expansion space because farmers couldn't expand their property due to placement of power lines, but I think that's gone a bit quiet in covid times.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
