New shug couplings from Tramspread have been launched to safely cope with the increased size and capacity of modern umbilical systems. The custom made, branded, shug couplings are fabricated from anodised aluminium and enable longer drags to be completed safely. “These new shugs are designed for heavy users and will stand the test of time. They are easy to use, safe and strong, to help speed up umbilical spreading using longer hose lengths whilst preventing any potential blowouts,” explains Tramspread director Edwin Baker.
“We have also manufactured these new shug couplings to be universal which helps users to easily interchange hoses without the need for a reducer,” he says. The clamp ring of the Tramspread shug design offers easy and secure coupling and uncoupling without the need for additional tools which saves time and can help prevent unnecessary spills. “These new shugs are very easy to operate and will save farmers time when setting up to spread umbilically,” he adds.
The shug couplings are part of a range of new equipment that also includes new hose pinchers manufactured by the Suffolk-based slurry specialist. “We believe that every part of an umbilical set up needs to be of the highest quality to protect the user and the land,” says Mr Baker.
The strength of the shug design enables the safe construction of longer drags for contractors or farmers who need to cover long distances. “As farms become larger and the need to reduce soil compaction increases, we are seeing longer umbilical hoses being ordered here and by users abroad. Our export business is growing because products like these shugs are needed for all types of hose work,” explains Mr Baker. “We want to make sure that as hose drags are increased the risk of blowouts is kept to a minimum and these shugs will certainly help,” he concludes.
