New site cabin/kitchen ideas

im looking at putting a site cabin up in my yard.
The one I’ve seen is all fitted out ready with kitchen and toilet etc.
All it would need is a power supply, water supply and septic tank.
Power (from my generator) and septic tank no problem.
The headache is the water.
I’ve got a 10000l rainwater tank from my shed but that would be below the level of the cabin and only be fit to feed the toilet and wash hands which I can live with for now.

Are there pumps available to make the pressure to fill toilet as I don’t think I can use gravity without filling an ibc and sitting it on the roof which will be a faff.

A clean 25l drum will do me for drinking water. I can fill that up from Home.

Hi Dave

There are many pumps that you could use - so looking at the tank, will it give the pump any head to work from or will you require a self priming pump?

Er......
The tank is above ground but will be below the level of the cabin.
I guess if the pump was in the cabin (and free from frost) it would need to be self priming.

What about a diaphram pump as fitted to atv sprayers? Self priming, off once they hit preset pressure, not expensive? 12v supply is easy to do and would save starting the genny aĺl the time. Wee charger running off the genny when running would top up a battery no prob if your genny battery is inconveniently sited.

Are you sure rainwater is clean enough for hand washing?
Wouldn't bother me to use it but wouldn't want to risk paid staff with it.

Plenty of 12V pumps out there that work off internal pressure switch, I think I would use a battery and solar power to recharge it.

It will only be me 99% of the time so not an issue

I guess it will need some sort of filter

Are you on a tight budget Dave - if so, you could always add a portable toilet and empty that at home. Not great - but the cost is minimal and it is not a bucket ;)

Not a tight budget as such. Just don't want to spend money on a septic tank that would serve 10 men when its only me

You can get a 4 person treatment plant - which is less hassle than a septic tank. The unit would set you back about £1800 inc vat, then with the kit you have - fitted yourself.

Go on?
Never heard of that
Basically you have a draining bucket below the seat and once you have used the toilet you add some dry soil or sawdust, they are set up to drain the urine away to help keep the solids drier and reduce the odour. I think you can buy a unit ready made to install in your building. They are installed at glamping sites etc. Worth enquiring anyway.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
