Is this good or bad for one of our local marts, is a kick in the teeth for the young lads currently running the show and on the face of it doing an excellent job
I can see what you mean - they're going to have to make room for somebody else coming in so it might ruffle a few feathers.

What you will get though is a very good cattle auctioneer. A very good eye for value. Watch him sell for a few weeks - where he wants to start is nearly always where he finishes. When he's in the rostrum, he's in charge and is not frightened of taking the buyers on. Has a very dim view of Defra, Trading Standards, etc and is not frightened of telling them so.
Maybe you could say he's a bit like Marmite:whistle:.

You might find he pulls in more stock so there's plenty for the other guys too. Only time will tell.

Sounds just like John Uffold at Ludlow when he was in charge (litterly)

Have bought and sold a lot of things, over the years, with PG as the auctioneer, would rather have him selling for me than try to buy something from him.

Will Newark replace Paul Gentry? would it justify 3 auctioners now?(if they havn"t already done so)
As I understand it from reading the press release that H&H will organise and run the pedigree sales with their auctioneers doing the selling. Which would mean the lads at Newark will carry on with their usual weekly prime and store sales, therefore I don't think they would need an extra auctioneer. Could be wrong though.

an auctioneer has to be friends with the seller ,friends of the buyers, and as such will upset both sides fairly regulary, he has to look after himself because he's the only one he can't fall out with ! to be fair there are plenty of good auctioneers out there, and its to their credit if both buyers and sellers speak well of them

I am NOT part of the mafia!! @yellowbelly. I wish I was!! On the point of the health question, don't the blondes come up to scratch!.
WB
Depends what you mean by up to scratch? Most herds are in health schemes and are testing for most diseases, however it's only become a society requirement to be in a health scheme to sell at a society sale in the last 12mths. I know, we are a bit behind the door on that one!

Don't worry I am not in a health scheme but test the particular animals. At the moment it comes back very good so I maybe ought to go into a scheme but I struggle to see the benefit with Lincoln Red's because the powers that be(ie Council ) do not want to pay a premium for animals, which should be the case between pedigree herds!. I hope that a change of Auctioneers will help them realise the way to go.
The (mafia) have tried to keep a little club! But there are now a number of new members and that I hope will change.
