nfu drought summit

But the only extra water the vast majority of us need will come from the sky, the government can’t do anything about that can they
Maybe they will make water free for all farmers for a day or two, I think I am off to B&Q for a few miles of garden hose and a couple of garden sprinklers just In case they sell out. If he becomes PM we are all Fu*&*d.

Now that you can trade water anyone want to buy some ? ive a sh!t load.

You’ll need several tankers?

I was just wondering what the point was to the summit if nothing is happening?

Surely they need to move fast to have any effect for this year?

Can anybody shed light on what has been agreed and implemented already?

My definiton one who gets his hands dirty one who takes the risk and carries the can when it goes wrong. Whats yours?

Hi, I do not have a definition. But interested to hear yours. My I be so bold to presume a farmer who did not get his hands dirty but took the risk would not be an active farmer? So how do you define dirty hands?

I suppose an answer from another era will have to suffice for the dirty hands test.
My late father would have answered a man who ploughs his own fields and milks his own cows.
Not so simple now .

Hi, indeed, I like, understand and appreciate your late father's probable reply. But as you say and I agree not as simple clear cut now. And thus why I appreciate no one in government really wants to make that call!

Best wishes.

Shes looking after the big boys what do you expect ?

She should be looking after ALL members intrests, not just the few big boys who voted for her to be president.

The forage shortage is going to be a hellish problem next winter, I cant see any way looking at the current weather forecast that farms will be able to make up the massive shortage in fodder that they now have going into the winter let alone the other issues like poor suckler cow conception rates and poor lambing %s next spring from lack of grass at bulling/ tupping etc etc.[/QUOTE]

You have seen who voted for who?
There's a first an NFU member, you are a member aren't you?, getting to see the voting.

What about all the pheasant cover crops around the UK? Thousands of acres of valuable feed that is just going to be used for "sport " can that not be used just like AD plant feed stocks.

We will be raiding allotments next for beans and potatoes to feed livestock!

But then there are still those who will go out and spend

As I read the press release the additional funding does not apply if the land is assigned as EFA or if in a GLAS scheme as fodder - would that be a stewardship scheme of some description? So I presume it applies to land that is switched from autumn cereals or autumn oilseed rape into a fodder crop - thus compensating for loss of a cereal. As I am not in Eire and not familiar with your subsidy schemes this is pure guesswork. Would you like to explain where this payment fits in? Thanks.

interesting idea, could see it working here if land destined for spring crops was to have an unplanned stubble turnip /forage rape or if land to be sown with a short term grass had a mix of st or fr mixed with it but the time window is short
