Ah, but surely thats all the fault of the nasty Tories !
Didn't the greatest shift in wealth occur during the Blair years?

It is all based on assumption because there isn't a comparison, just like if we sink or swim when we Brexit. If we do sink, Brexiteers will say we were doomed anyway, and remainers will say Brexit caused it.
If we do well, Brexiteers will say Brexit saved the day, remainers will say we were going to thrive anyway.

Most people believe what they want to or are told they should, very few are open minded and capable of coming up with ideas of their own.
If you are open minded you are capable of accepting the ideas of others, rather than formulating your own... That written, there are some clear un-partisan facts, such as that reducing tax and liberalising the economy increased national wealth. Regardless of which side of the argument one is on, it would be stupid to claim success or failure in the short term and solely on the UK's own performance, a decade and relative measure against other similar economies would be sensible.

which are the nasty ones ?
The others.

To me, open minded is looking at the facts available and making your own mind up without prejudice.

you do know that money isn't everything don't you, its all you seem to talk about
when I can remember first folk use to talk about millionaires like they had all the money they could wish for and there wasn't many about really now you seem to need a billion to be classed the same
anyway you keep chasing it down there as far away from the eu as you can get, I hope it makes you happy (y)
If you dont have enough money to pay your bills, buy food and other essentials, then money IS everything!

Which works on the assumption that there would have been no 'progress' outside of the EU / EEC. By the way, the financial progress is inarguable, but you don't seem aware that social divides - particularly those based on money - are far, far greater now than when the UK joined the EU / EEC. (y)
Yes It does work on that assumption, the UK may very well have progressed financially without being in either the EEC/EU, conversely things could have been worse, we will never know.

Having lived and worked in both countries there is a lot more chasing money up there than there is down here, Down here a lot of importance is placed on leisure and spending time with family, what the sound biters like to call work life balance.
I appreciate that you hope it makes me happy, it does.

Yes but Tony was a Tory...

Oh no he wasn't…

I think it a safe presumption that, regardless of whether or not the UK had entered the EEC / EU, it would have been better off with the discontinuation of the Labour-made 'state' and a more liberal economy.

The Schengen agreement is not a body, it is an agreement signed into EU law with two EU member states (UK and ROI) not signatories to it.

The UK and Ireland, along with the Isle of Man and The Channel Islands have had their own version of Schengen since the 1920s, it's called The Common Travel Area. While Ireland remains outside Schengen, there is a people border between these islands and mainland Europe. No need to worry until Ireland joins Schengen.

Also worth noting that under EU law EU migrants need to be working or have adequate funds. They can circulate freely for just three months after which they need to show resources, and sickness insurance (or EHIC card). The UK is one of a few EU countries that has not implemented this. This has been the case since 2004 so perceived immigration 'issues' are not the EU's fault, they are the UK government's fault.
