Out and about today (and I’m not saying where)
Driving along …noticed a little bit of spilt Granular Nitrogen where tractor had pulled out of farm road onto the public road….thought to my self …ahhh too fast round the corner…. spilt some over the edge…
Bit further along the road and there was a increasing amount on the road…few hundred yards further and it was achieving a good even spread over both lanes of the road.
I had caught a glimpse of the Tractor with the Spreader a bit further ahead…
Application rate was pretty high to say the least.
Caught up with the Tractor…pretty new spreader….the shut off valve on one side must have crept open or something…doesn’t really matter how…by this time it was running out the bottom big time…
Couldn‘t get past him…so started on the Horn….resulting in a wave from the cab..
Stuck at it on the Horn…tractor hazard warning lights got switched on…kept the horn going…tractor turns off onto an estate road which happened to be the way I was going…so kept going on the Horn…
Nitrogen still pouring out the bottom…eventually tractor goes off up the field track heading for the field…so I left him to it..
Pretty sure the better part of a ton would be gone by the time he got to the field.
So if it was you I’m sorry if I sounded like an irate tourist but I was only trying to help.

If it’s anything like my old Amazone the shutters fail open, that’s to say they are opened by a big spring. Any sort of leak in the shutter hydraulic ram control valve or circuit and the shutter opens on its own.
It’s the stupidest design there ever was. The shutter ram should be double acting IMO. Power open and power closed or at least spring closed, power open, so loss of hydraulic pressure closes not opens the valve.
And they wonder why there’s spillage.

Similar happened to me. I met a truck towing a trailer with a digger on the back at a narrow bridge. The guy was going a bit fast and I nearly hit him, so made my feelings clear! As he went past, I noticed the arm of the digger was not secured and was swining around, so I turned around as soon as I could and followed him up the road leaning on the horn. He did stop eventually and was obvioously expecting a confrontation. His mood changed when he realised why I was hooting! Far too dangerous to leave swinging, though it was tempting! Always best to check.

Some of us try and help, other's just ignore.

I was coming down the motorway at dusk and passed a lorry with one of his ramps straight out behind him.

I dropped back and flashed him, then passed him sat in front and indicated to go into next services.
He was so grateful as he couldn't see it in the half light.

Years ago I called in my local mechanic's workshop to find him looking over a land drive muck spreader which was looking quite the worse for wear. The big cog on the land drive was in 2 pieces. The chain was in multiple pieces. The beater shaft was bent. The two finger rotors had teeth missing from the cogs. Apparently the owner had bought it in a farm auction and set off home with it behind his L/R. Going along in fine fettle when the ratchet lever jumped out of the transport slot and engaged drive. Gloom and despondency.

Remember seeing a tv news item where a lorry carrying a digger or excavator had the unsecured dipper arm swing out into the opposite carriageway and it decapitated the occupants of a number of vehicles travelling in the opposite direction, very nasty for all parties

Iirc it was a family that was killed, the truck driver ended up in a mental institution.

The accident in question resulted in 5 people being killed by the back actor on a Cat digger swinging into oncoming traffic. Poor bloke that was driving the low loader was a wreck after it with PTSD. Even worse one of the attending paramedics had family killed in the crash. Complete tragedy.

Thanks for the clarification.
Beyond awful, all because the jib wasn't secured.
