Noble price before drops.
V Large 92p
Large 92p
Medium 86p

These are prices before scheme bonus 3p and any other top ups ie new shed bonus.

So

94p VL

94p L

79p M.

If you've got finance to pay then that is a loss making price.

Those scheme bonuses from whichever packer are more than eaten up by the fact feed bought through the scheme costs roughly £25/t more than the free market price.

We used to ring Nobles (and our current packers) when we get price cuts to 'discuss' the reasoning, and are usually told something like 'you're the only ones who're complaning' or ' we haven't had many complaints

Why? What is wrong with producers that they just sit back and accept the fact they are being shafted?!! Every farmer in Wales and Northern Ireland has been encouraged to build a shed with the utterly predictable result that the market has been flooded with egg, who's fault is that?!

I guess those on feed trackers are unaffected?

What price you paying for feed?

Problem with feed is are you comparing apples with apples? Yes other suppliers will sell a cheaper feed, but plenty non Noble "experts" will tell you feed consumption is higher or bird health is better on such and such ration. That said I am paying a fair bit more than either of you, but at the moment I am not fixed.

Get chain feeders speeded up, we used to feed 1600 birds 2100 kgs per day , now with different cogs in motors and keeping a closer eye on the feeds , we reduced it to slightly below 1700 kgs, every two and half days you save 1 ton of meal and birds doing great,, unfortunately this is the type of things we all have to think of in the future to try to beat the cuts,

Just over 100g/bird/day surely this is cage birds not free range?

Why does speed of chains make any difference?

In the past it took that long for the meal to come back round the house , the birds would eat it before it could come back, any one who has a multieteir system will understand
Why does that matter? I try and keep feed in the track at all times anyway. Obviously hens still prefer fresh food.

I remember when researching equipment one rep was keen on pan feeders (can't remember what and how they fitted a system) his theory was the minute the feed started every bird was fed (there was sufficient feed in the feed line to instantly fill the pans) so you didn't get stress from crowding etc. Perhaps your chain speed is the similar concept.

Balancer is £400 @34.5%
Wheat £175@ 57%
Oats £140 @7.5%
Soya oil £600 @ 1%

£254.25 for a gm free ration.

Have increased oats to 10% now.

That's pretty good for GM free? And you know exactly what's in it.

Presume the oats are to increase fibre levels? We've had our ration boosted to 4.75% fibre from about 3.2% for this flock, too early to tell if its helping, not exactly sure what they've used to achieve it.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
