Cows out six months today. Slurry tanks all empty. Reseeding done. Silage pits full and unopened. Opened first bale of silage today..for beef cattle.
Whatever happens on the 31st ,we have no control over. Whatever milk price you receive will be the same as your neighbours. I was far more stressed this time 2017..1/3 of my silage eaten, all stock housed and tanks half full. This year hasn’t been bad.
Don’t worry. Be happy.

Is Whelan speaking on behalf of Dale farm or the dairy industry in general? I thought Dale farm had a good GB market to help insulate Brexit to some degree. Sure the Uk is hardly self sufficient in Dairy products so with a abit of readjusting to direct product to home markets and id say well not be as bad as the scare mongers makeout.

I don't know if he was speaking for the whole industry or not but but all the points he made related to the industry not just Dale Farm. It is perhaps worth noting that no other CEO has gone public in the same way, Lakeland are the biggest milk buyer in NI but Michael Hanley has made no public statements which I find very strange.

How long is the transition period, will we get a fair price for milk in the meantime, how many months will the banks wait

Transition period is 2 years I think, if there is a deal. No deal no transition.
Fixed your 2nd part.
Last thing the bank wants to do is sell you out. During the last downturn I only know of one person who had to sell up and there were dozens in bother apparently.
My advice is keep your head down and carry on, there will either be a deal/fudge of some sort or an extension.

I was replying to the first post, the transition I referred to was changing from our current supply set up to moving all excess raw milk, distressed milk, milk products to the mainland.

Sorry I misunderstood. I take it that if there is no withdrawal agreement there will be no transition arrangements for anything, the processors would surely have contingency plans in place, whether that is sending milk to mainland or increasing processing capacity in NI.
Milk supply in its traditional trough might provide a natural transition period as there should be less milk around to find a home for.
As I said in my last post I think there will either be a deal or an extension, plenty of time yet, no deal ever gets done until the last minute.

Nigel Farage has just been on our local news admitting that in the short term a no deal brexit will be extremely difficult for British farmers and there Will be winners and losers but in the long term it is the right thing to do economically.

Any idea how long it takes to get planning, funding, order and install new capacity?!

Are factories running at full capacity in November? I'd have thought not if they can cope with the spring flush. We are hopefully talking about a very short time until EU/ UK/ business get themselves sorted. I suspect that businesses would be the biggest factor in sorting it. Can't see Michael Hanley et al sit and watch empty processing plants and potential lost orders, while z's cant get his milk over the border because he needs a bit of paper.
