Were crossing with the montbeliarde now for the last 6 years and very happy with the results lost abit of yield but gained body condition and less hassle with them we find anyway but that’s just what suits us don’t think I’d like to drop the Holstein out altogether tho works well on the cross

On my system (housed ayr on robots), my personal opinion is that it takes the high yielding Holsteins and just manage them very tightly. I have a few Friesian/Holstein crosses and they just do not hold up at all in regards to production.

Regarding antibiotics, I keep Limousin/BB/Charolais suckler cows and low and behold, they need treated too, and they have a very low intensity life compared to the milkers.

Based on average or one off Friesian’s doing the same as Holsteins?
Averaged out ther pretty equal. I wouldnt be feedin as heavy as sum. In winter high yeilders get 9 kilo average 7 kilo and end of lactation 5 kilo daily in parlour and around 3-3.5 in diet feeder. Is that average for feedin cows ?

@AndooMooMoo Which fres bulls are you using? Always thought you sacrified milk volume with fres
I'm milking Hiltons in their first and 2nd lactations, I've Chad's to calve in this year and next and this years calvings are to Premier and Jingle. I've the milk yields on the parlour software and so far the Hiltons match the Holsteins stride for stride. Granted, we're a grazing herd and not putting out 12000 litres a cow, but we still produce good yields per cow for our system. BTW if anyone has tips on a Friesan bull to use this year, I'm all ears.

What is the best drug to use to cure high scc? Got couple of cows and done them with the boluses when they started showin cruds but they didnt work so i tubed them and the cruds disappeared but stil high scc so what can i try now? Any injection i could put up in the teat?
Somtimes you need to keep using tubes for several more days after the cruds have gone . The infection has to be completely cured or you risk breeding resistant bugs .
If the cow is a peristent offender then maybe use a long acting dry cow tube and stop milking the quarter she will either cure after a long dry period or if not then send her for a spin on a lorry !! I have heard off several " off label " cures such as 10 cc of Tylan or Betamox directly into the teat but its up to you i couldnt possibly comment on how effective the are :) Udder mint is quite good to at getting the scc down too once the cruds have gone . But the best advice i was ever given was get a sample cultured and find out what bugs you are dealing with and what tube or injection is best for treating the mastitis . Then you are not wasting time or money on treatments that your mastitis are resistant too .

Anybody try Albitotic tubes. Have been using them for the last year and they have been great. Used other ones for a while which were useless and back onto Albitotic again. 3 tubes in 36hours usually sorts it.
