Well seen the milk cheques in according to trade at ballymena on marteye whist having a cup earlier...... if you didn't have milk coming forward you'll certainly have to pay for it.

Tall beech hedge at the back of the garden, with a tree growing on up. Some of the leaves are dead as you can see? Are you seeing this in your area? In all of the more extreme dry spells we've had in recent years, I never saw this.

Also, I've been plucking blackberries from the hedges for a week now. Shouldn't be coming ready to end of month I'd have thought.

All the chestnut trees are turning here. They're usually the first but yes it's early.
Eating blackberries when out checking cattle at the moment. Usually eating them when out with hedge cutter, again it's early.
If this is global warming,I'm happy enough. Cows are out 5 months and 3 days. Longer than we had some years when they only got out in May.

I think it's good to take time to smell the flowers, so to speak. Running faster each day on a treadmill only serves the makers of treadmills. And undertakers.
Men milking three and four times the number of cows now that they needed for a decent living thirty years ago.

Who benefits?, ..............the processor, the feed/fertiliser merchant, and the consumer.

Where will it end?

All of the above but especially the consumer .
The percentage of income spent on food in real terms has declined sharply over the last 50 years .
A reversal of this is currently underway hence the so called " cost of living crisis "
A side affect is we the farmers are currently enjoying decent returns until the input juggernaut overtakes the increases in commidity prices .
Going to be a very challenging year coming with projected fert and energy prices .

Not really a dairy issue, but store lambs in Ballymena this evening going for next to nothing.

Anybody out there with any grass going spare needs to get a clatter bought.
