Not Nearly Finished

Finished our little bit of Spring Barley off a couple of days ago. It had been sprayed off just a month when we started, so straw was leaning a 'little' but most came in at 14% after late starts. The best field, the likes of which I have never seen in Spring Barley, turned into a salvage job.

Last of the straw baled into quads today, so should all be undercover by tonight. Just finishing off DD'ing the last of the stubble turnips today, but probably too late top come to anything at all now.

Just finished the mustard. Didn't take much carting:(

Radish look more promising, but it's the first time we've grown them so perhaps they always do. Should get into them next week.

Just been down for a look at the spring barley. :(
Ground very wet, crop got to be 23-25% and it's sprouting in the head now as well
Nice enough weather but no sun or wind to dry it up a bit.

Mainly fat hen, mayweed, chickweed and a small bit of redshank. Some fields have a green carpet.

Simpler way to do what? The cleaning?

combining beans in general i would think

Anything. :)

Abandoned the field we were in and moved to another which seems cleaner. The first field was too advanced so the agronomist didn't fancy basagran on it, but the fields that have had basagran are much cleaner (other than the headlands). I thought this weed moved in after the beans died back, but perhaps I'm wrong and it is always there where basagran is not used (or doesn't work efectively).

Have been trying to combine in mornings only to try and stop pods springing open but with the green weed, and quite a few green stems around too i'm starting to think twice as the sieves just get blocked up in no time. Moisture has come down to just below 16 now so did a trailer load this afternoon that will hopefully be dry enough to just need cleaning and not drying which will save a job.

Did you spray them off with roundup?

Another reason to hate beans.

Not this time. Have done previously (winter beans normally the day before we start wheat harvest), but they're spring beans this year so didn't get chance with the weather. I think I'm going to do the easy bits now, and then get some reglone ordered up to crisp up the weedy bits.

Finished Oats. Flat bits had sprouted so gathered them up at the end for sheep feed. Apparently millers real fussy this year. Doubt mine was down to 14% despite being 2 weeks sprayed off.
17 acres of barley left now.

Tried a bit of spring barley late this afternoon.
Doing about 3t/ac and 19%. Grain felt wetter than that but the Marconi says 19.
Only one refusal, reversed out.
Soft side of field tomorrow though....
