I got fed up with the small handle on my chopper! I was going to post this in the bodge section but the use of a router and new stainless steel screws precluded this. I welded a new tang on as the old one was too small and already bent, although I think this one might be too big as there is not much thickness of wood top an bottom.

We have one made from an old heavy gate with a piece of angle welded at right angles to the gate to make a foot. Shift it with the manitou.

Our steading has a few wide openings that we usually block off with tractor and bale trailer when moving cattle, anyone made something like a free standing gate barrier type thingy?
Saw a pic recently where a guy had a set made up, they were simple square frames about 15ft long made of 40 or 50mm box with a set of lifting eyes up top, then shortish lengths of channel welded at the bottom at 90degrees to keep them. The really neat bit was that he made a go of them as a set and each gates channel irons are in a slightly different position so that they all stack in neatly together when not in use.

Did see one like that on a farm recently but he also had a gate hung off each end so would fill a wide gap then fold up out of the way

Wrong thread I know (bit bodgy) but we use the orange barrier fencing stuff they put around sites. Comes on a roll and cheap, just hook it on anything across the gap and then roll up after. No stength but does the job. I even made some stands once from old discs with a piece of pipe welded to them for long gaps.

I didnt make them but i bought these last year just because they were cheap. Surprisingly we use them quite a bit.

Local abattoir have some but with castor wheels on which could be handy if always on concrete.

Can we see your work with the hook?

I'm really proud of this which probably says something about my life more than anything
We hung some new wooden gates to stop visitors just wandering about and keep the dogs in, I wanted to have a rest for them in the middle that would not harm a tyre and not be a bloody nuisance sticking up proud. It also had to take an the weight of an artic so a blob of concrete was out as it would never last.
I used a large old disc to give a nicely tapered mound with a bit of rod as a stop and latch for the bolt. I blew two holes in it (won't drill) and recessed them for Rawl bolts and it's been there for two years so far and does the job. Not a bodge as two new Rawls.
