After chatting to someone yesterday I can’t help but have some interest in the Novag drill. Bearing in mind that there is to my knowledge only one sold in the U.K. perhaps Cross Slot owners / operators could tell me what they do or don’t like on their drill and, where the Novag is better or worse?

Thank you

how about one on tracks ?

No UK experience yet to pull from other than the brief demo on my farm this autumn but basically to my eye ists a better built, more up to date, better backed up and cheaper Cross Slot

Ideal for heavy soil where slot closure with other single disc openers can be an issue

I know of quite a lot of unhappy cross slot users on heavy soil this year, slot closure sounds like the least of their worries. The drill is too heavy and needs too much downforce for wet sticky clay from what I can gather.

Lets face it most drills have been flawed this year, weight is the last thing you need in an extremely wet year. Even our Avatar found its limit which IMO was higher than the 750a limit would have been. low weight and no packers wheels we key and why our CO with front hopper has worked where even the avatar could not

That said the few bits we did establish with the Novag demo in very poor and wet conditions have come well and I wish now with benefit of hindsight we had carried on and done more with it

In a dry year, you want/need that weight, especially on heavy soils and that's where this type of opener has an advantage. on the Novag you can add a remove big weight plates to suit conditions but .................... there are limits

Oh yeah, wasn’t having a go. Just for this year on clay a heavy drill that’s needs huge downforce hasn’t worked very well.

The first novag in LV is on tracks. In the first autumn this trucks give up and owner Park this drill in shed for weeks as was no support from factory, there were many other problems with build quality/construction faults... Nowdays ewry manufacture had some kind of issues but story here is about attitude when You Open Your pocket for Porsche 911... But in reality You got just noisy escort mk2 feelings

very surprised to hear having visited the factory and met the very professional and enthusiastic team behind these drills
