NRoSO making life more difficult

NRoSO have changed the rule about collecting points.
You now have to collect 10 every year, not 30 over 3 and you will not be allowed to roll spare points over to the next year.
Yet another "straw on the camels back" of rules and regs. that have to be remembered, not just getting the points, but registering them when you do.
It's all very well for the FSOOTY winning "poster boy", who only drives the sprayer and spends the rest of the year polishing it (no offence to the FSOOTY entrants, I'm having a go at NRoSO).
The rest of us have a thousand and one other things to think about, from cross compliance rules, animal tagging and recording, Red tractor rules and records to VAT returns and self assessment tax. It's a good job none of us have family stuff to think about too .
Well don NRoSO !

Agri do a yearly update which gets you your 10 points. I'm sure others do the same.
We trot along to Bodmin rugby club every year for a pasty and a chat about how bad everything is, dad gets 10 NRoSO points, I get 8 BASIS points, and everyone goes home feeling happy knowing that things are sh1t everywhere!🙃

On the point of BASIS taking the NRoSO reigns, they are far from perfect but, I do think they will be better than the clowns at City & Guilds. They have said they'll put all the learning resources and test on their "Classroom" platform which to be fair, is pretty good, so it may be easier to get the points anyway. The whole thing is still a nonsense but, the nonsense might be managed better under BASIS!

I missed getting enough points during covid. Threatened with being struck off, if you are you cannot rejoin for a year. It’s only me here who can spray and if I was thrown out the cost of a contractor and potentially loosing assurance is far in excess of the crime. I did manage to get a enough points online.

Also almost thrown out of Red Tractor last year because apparently putting a new pressure gauge on a sprayer during an mot reads fail.

This shower of Sh1t has to stop or a least somebody with some sense has to control them

Ballcocks surely?
Their remit is that you must have a valid NSTS on inspection.

I accept that there is a need for scrutiny, that operators need to to be properly trained, sprayers need to be properly maintained etc.
But why make the system more rigid, and steel points that you have actually earned !

Was told by the guys at basis that basis points should automatically read across to nroso. ie, if you get your basis quota each year, then you automatically fulfil nroso point criteria

You'd have to be very rich to afford running a sprayer in unmaintained condition.

A box ticking brain dead system designed to take money from farmers and waste their time.

There is nothing to learn and nothing to be gained - the spray nozzles and most chemicals are exactly as they were decades ago.

This kind of thing is getting fairly close to the last straw for us here. I’m the only registered sprayer driver here. The cost and logistics of contractors is out of the question on a small farm. They are trying to eliminate small farms by a variety of methods. NROSO is just one of them. Sick and tired of all of this.

Really? It certainly used to but then that was abolished…I can’t imagine them back tracking 🤷‍♂️ I can’t seem to find anything after a quick google but would love to see something in writing 🤞

I struggle to see how a BASIS qualification qualifies anybody to operate a sprayer in the same way as I would struggle to see how a qualified design engineer is qualified to operate a CNC machine tool.
I actually struggle to see how being a member of NROSO qualifies anybody to drive a sprayer but that’s another matter. I’m NROSO certified but would not know how to move the estate’s sprayer let alone operate it safely.
NROSO is a meaningless qualification really. It’s nothing more than a PA1 and 2 brush up which is so basic and general it’s not really significant.
