Simple question really, do you plan to grow more, less or the same area of this risky crop ?

If less why ? price, csfb, slugs or other reason

Slightly more here, just how the rotation has worked
It’s still the best break crop for us but it’s under more pressure than ever due to risk and price collapse

Long time ago when I was involved in trials, we ran rotation trials at a time when the rape price fell to about £110/tonne. This was still made up for in the extra margin from the following wheat. Still a big leap of faith, though, I admit.

rotational CSS options and BPS loss maybe shift that balance ?

The risk profile has just shifted too far for me and I think a sensible farm bossiness needs to plan some certainty into its rotation now there is little (soon no) BPS to fall back on ?

OSR is the highest risk crop we grow

Its looking decent BUT price is rather uninspiring and its definitely a high risk crop ..................... and we have CSS options that maybe look better and offer more to the rotation ?

Which CSS options would you consider in its place? I agree there are some appealing ones but they pretty much all have a downside.

I have put less only because of how it’s fits into the rotation,if more land is available then the area will go up.

working on options at the moment, too soon to say what’s best yet but even if not quite the potential gross output they offer certainty ……. something missing from many farm businesses at the moment i think
