The bleed screws on this old engine are beyond help, my predecessors attacked them with chisels and other weapons to remove them so now getting tedious to remove them to bleed her after she’s sat for a while. I have tried Ruston Lincoln direct, unsurprisingly they don’t have any stock left from back in the day and recently disposed of all their engine plans to a local museum....

Does anyone know where might be a good place to source such a thing? I will endeavour to get one out later to get measurements..... also any of the collective know how old the engine is just for my own curiosity. Is a beast, once bled she started first time (fresh battery) after sitting under a holey tarpaulin for 15years.

We have a few boxes of both metric and imperial small bolts bought cheaply off the internet, its surprising how often it saves a lot of time and effort when you lose something like a bleed screw!

When I was in Australia on my year off before uni I did a season on the cotton harvest in NSW, we were miles away from anywhere and anything. It was something like 80 km to the nearest proper road. The gang was about a dozen of us and we lived in shearers quarters and moved from farm to farm picking cotton .

Once they knew I could use a spanner I became the mechanic's gopher.

One day I got sent out to look for the cook who had been gone for hours too long getting supplies (mostly beer and winfield reds!). Turns out she had run out of diesel in one of the farms brand new hilux pickups. I had diesel with me so filled it up and then lost the bleed screw. In pure frustration I put a self tapping screw wrapped in white tape in to it. Still gives me nightmares.
