So ..... have been thinking that we need a tractor for light duties bit of flail topping (on flat level grassland) and a lot of running about carrying stuff from one end of the farm to the other. Currently we use a contractor for most of our field work (haylage, grassland reseeding, muck spreading & topping etc) and both our machines are loaders (JCB 535 & a Kramer 280) for feeding, bale handing etc so we don't currently have anything to run PTO equipment.

Have been surprised how expensive tractors are, fancied something older and simpler to maintain but even so prices for anything tidy seem a bit steep. Also, both are loaders are painfully slow on the road so something that carry feed to some land, we rent about 6/7 miles away would also be handy.

I thought about using some sort of ATV (Mule type) and buying a mower (with engine) for it but again seems to me a lot of money for something that's not really man enough for the job? Not sure I fancy topping a 40 acre field with a 1.2m mower !!

Then I saw a couple of self propelled sprayer chassis for sale and though maybe this would be a good solution? Saw a Clayton 4120 with 3 point linkage and an Agri Buggy (which I think has a PTO?) also a Unimog U90.

.... has anyone done something similar? Was thinking essential an all terrain flatbed / drop side ideally with a 3 point linkage & PTO for the occasional topping job etc? Plus the seem likely to be faster on the road than an older tractor which would be handy for hauling a bale or two to feed livestock that are off the farm in the winter.
