On the docks

I drive a truck part time all the work is off the docks Yesterday I took a loaded fridge in to Immingham to go to Esbjerg (Denmark) no problems . Then had to collect a trailer from Esbjerg and drop it in a warehouse in Immingham The terminal couldn't release the trailer as it was on customs hold . Of the 6 of us that were collecting Esbjerg trailers only 2 received them
I then picked an empty trailer up to load in Huddersfield for shipping to Dublin via Liverpool I was just about to start to load when i got a phone call and was told to pull out as the shipper had not received the correct paper work and did not want the trailer loaded until the paperwork was correct
So dumped the trailer in Leeds ran bobtail to Liverpool collected trailer from Dudlin and dropped it back at Immingham no problems Then tried to collect a fridge to come home with and found out it was on customs hold . Of the six of us collecting trailers nobody recieved one
It seems that the large shippers DSV , DFDS ect will not load trialers unless the customer has the correct paper work . The delays on getting trailers off the docks appears to be that HMRC do not have enough staff or procedures in place to handle the volume of traffic Apparantly HMRC are going to improve things next week It makes me wonder what they have spent the last 4 years doing

i'm expecting a small business order / delivery , from Germany the company has sent more than one 'trial' shipment and had it sent back to them for not having enough and of the right paperwork,
i'm patient and am able to wait so have still left it without claiming a refund, it will come eventually .

I'm guessing that they were told to wait for a deal & nothing would change! Odd that the French were preparing for Brexit soon after Article 51 was triggered by Theresa May.

i don't know what paperwork is needed but surely it can't be that difficult to download and print off correct paperwork
Fresh veg to NI, (now to be treated as an export due to sharing land border with EU) needs load plan confirmed prior to shipping, phyto cert 7 days prior and certificate of conformity. Think it adds about £70/load, but not done a run yet.
Problem I see is that a lot can happen in 7 days and if any of the load plan deviates ie change of truck or trailer then that plan is null and you’ve t start from scratch again.

Fridge drivers very often have their plans ballsed up at large retail central depots where they can be kept waiting for hours even if they arrive on time for their delivery slot.

That’s the bit I think is gonna cause probs for us. Saying that, I would hope that after the initial “snagging period” things will settle down and some common sense work arounds will prevail. 🤞

I'm awaiting a few bits from screwfix, ordered on irish site but seems to be coming from UK, they have attempted to get it sent twice so far and been turned at customs (in UK... saying they can't get it exported) due to paperwork. Not time critical for me and they seem to doing what they can to sort it, but it must be costing a fortune

I do hope you didn't vote Leave in June 2016. If this has come as a surprise. Sure it will settle down.
i did yes, what gets me is they've had 4 years to sort out any extra paper work or checks needed, like i said earlier it's still the same goods going back and forward near enough the same amount of trucks and before all this carry on only a fraction of the freight got checked so why do they say they have to check much more? once germany realise that france is f**king everything up they'll drop them like a hot stone and everything will be back to normal
