one thing has occurred to me:-
There are a few members on here who can’t wait to replace everything with robots. The same members (well one in particular) have stated that there staff are members on here as well.
Let’s all hope for your sakes that those loyal employees don’t read this thread or you lads could have a revolt on your hands
Half of Staffordshire could be a wasteland for the next 10-20 years till these robots become comercially available
Yes, I've been saying this for years. We will have technicians keeping the swarm going from well stocked vansI don’t see robots replacing my guys I think they will become operators of these things, they are quite excited by this kind of tech when we have talked about it
I wondered that today myself, round here double !So for those with bigger brains than me (and more time to faff about),if every farm was 1000 acres with 1 man running it as a full time, how many farmers would there be in the UK?
Yep, I'd agree with this...This thread has really irritated me. Agriculture needs to be treated like a professional business, not a romanticised hobby that is considered a god given right.
Good recovery thereI don’t see robots replacing my guys I think they will become operators of these things, they are quite excited by this kind of tech when we have talked about it
Me and father do 3200ish acre with one other person from march until October and two chaps corn carting in August. This includes all the agronomy ourselves. I still go out all the time and enjoy myself which those who know me on here will vouch for.Yep, I'd agree with this...
If the economics of mixed farming changed and grazing livestock returned, I would hope it would be in a more innovative manner than just looking back to a romanticized copy of a high fixed cost system from the past !!
I have worked on a 6000 acre business in the past which worked out at 1250 acre/man, we had livestock and muck on the farms by working with specialist livestock neighbours, the farms were all in HLS, I struggle to see how breaking up these units benefits everyone ??

However, long term this probably isn't sustainable however for the next 4-5 years whilst everything is very up in the air with Brexit etc it should work well with being very lean and efficient.
We do have large 12m drill/combine/cultivator which makes a huge difference in fairnessThat's a big workload - as long as you're happy with the work/life balance then fair play to you
There's too much bias against bigger farm units amongst the TFF membership IMO. There's plenty of room for both big and small scale farm businesses.

So will they be happier filling little robots up with hundredweight bags of seed and prattting on with silly electronic problems than sat in a (little) 724's warm cab cruising up and down with a 750a? I doubt it somehow!!
so it will turn farming in to an office jobI think the refilling and re charging will be very quickly automated, very simple tasks to automate
Operators will be setting up jobs and moving / maintaining them I think - mostly from a warm office

well whoopee bloody do
