Ontop tractors

Could anyone tell me roughly how much they think my ontop 800 Cruiser tractor is worth as it is, and if it would be best to restore or modify and update it? It has a layland TL11 engine producing 230bhp and does 65kph. I've been told there were only 12 of these ever made? I am unsure of how many miles/hours it has done, all the major components work it's just a bit rough around the edges.

Thanks

We have an Ontop Trekker and are currently in the process of putted it back on the road.

We have looked at 2 trekkers for sale and should have gone for them. The Bedford engined one was running perfect but felt quite weak at the lower rpm’s. Just the nature of old tech. The later Cummins engine had more torque despite being less displacement. The cabs are great, loads of space and surprisingly quiet as engine is well isolated from the chassis. Being solid steel they are easy to shot blast and respray when the inevitable rust starts to get hold. The trekkers are absolutely huge things and have loads of potential but really need repowering with 350hp truck engines to be on top of the job. The transfer box and 4x4 system is super heavy duty and easy to repair unlike all other machines.. the concept has huge potential for a cheap to run powerhouse. No electronics needed, Definitely my kind of machine.

We've had this Ontop since 1994 when the Gillen's made it for us. It originally had the Bedford engine but was upgraded to the Cummins in early 2000's. We also run a U500 Unimog. We have a few finishing touches to do and it'll be back on the road.

The finish on that is probably better than it was from new or rather when it was created 😎😎

The 4x4 trekkers were up for £8k odd when we have looked at them. If they had bigger engines and gearboxes they would easily be worth £30k or more just for the amount of work they could get through and how cheap the commercial components are to run. Not to mention they actually drive like a 1980’s lorry with far better visibility which is great as everyone knows a 40 year old car/ lorry runs on the road far better than a brand new tractor!

Does anyone have any ontops laid about for sale? Nothing immaculate, I’m just after something that starts and runs and drives. Not particularly bothered if the spreaders don’t work or doesn’t have on one etc. just fancying a project.
thanks

Oh aye, we are in Yorkshire, so that trekker you have was owned by yourself from newly built? Looks a cracking refurb,
What engine does it have, size ext? And what transmission?

The Gillen's built it for us. It was one of the first with that wheel configuration and 4x4. The tractor has its original transmission but in the early 2000's went back and had the Bedford engine removed and replaced with a 6 cyl Cummins we are 270Hp now and runs like a mouse chewing paper.

Yes be a different machine now with the Cummins fitted, very good, one trekker I have has a Cummins with a four over four gearbox fitted, that’s a 96 year and the other is a 99 year with Bedford engine,
Do you know any other trekkers or cruisers other you way?

Over here guys didn't see the need for high speed big hp. I think ours is probably the only remaining one. The only other Ontop i know of here is a self-propelled slurry tanker.

Yes they only made 6 trekkers, I know where 4 are now,
It’s the two wheel drive cruiser that I have is the only I know of, apparently one of those went to Ireland
