There's a section in the manual for stripping it down and overhauling however I dont know anyone who does them or where to get parts, that's why they're probably just replaced.

Also worth considering, there's 2 different types of orbital units, one for auto steer and a normal one. The auto steer orbital is not nice to drive on the road, constantly needs adjusting to keep straight, easiest way to tell is drive forward with the steering turned then let go, if the steering returns to the centre it's normal, if it's auto steer the wheels will stay where you left them. This changed around tier 4b tractors though.

Drew farmin life on YouTube changed the orbital on a t7, but that made no difference and the other days blog he was on putting 2 new steering rams on. Haven’t found out if it has cured the problem though.

These models do suffer from the rams wearing in the middle so even a new seal kit doesn't solve the problem

They are not that bad to do, believe it or not.

However, from memory warm hands are your enemy as the main valve sleeves are so well machined, a slight temp differential is enough for them not to slide together.

I think a special tool is needed to fit the leaf springs ?

The key thing to remember is they must be timed correctly or you end up with a hyd motor 😭

Yea i have done them up before mainly seals but imwondering is the bottom oscilating gear worn and letting oil by it same as a hyd motor gets worn

My money's on the leaf springs. If you turn the steering about one inch and let go, and constantly do that, you should be able to turn the steering wheel without the wheels moving.

You can buy a service kit that includes seals, gaskets, leaf springs and if I remember rightly a needle roller bearing ?

This may help.

He does not say much about the leaf springs, however you can seen them sticking out of the inner sleeve during re-assembly.

Although it does not appear to show it, I vaguely remember one of the body bolts being a relief valve, maybe after 30 years my memory is not what it used to be.
